ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Inconsistant Starting

One out of a hundred times I go to start my car, it doesn't want to turn over. It seems to be only when the engine is warmed up. I'll try it a couple more times (does the same thing), then wait about one minute. Then it'll start right up. What the hell? It's not the starter because it's been doing this for several years now and I've replaced the starter in that time. Any ideas?

You might need to resolder your main relay. It sits up under the dash, and 18 years of heat soaking under there works the connections loose. Or you can buy a new one. But resoldering it is free! There is a DIY in the DIY section of this site.

does it crank or do anything when you start it?

if it does crank it can be the main relay.

but if it doesnt crank then no way its ur main relay.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

clean the connections on the battery terminals and starter motor. when it is warmer out, there is more resistance in the wires so with corrosion on your terminals it takes more from the battery.

It cranks, but doesn't turn over. I'm going with the main relay idea. Brand new optima battery, ground and power cables, and fairly new starter lead me to believe its none of those. Thanks for your help fellas.

I was just having a similar problem, it would start fine when it was cold, but after it warmed up it wouldn't start back up. I pulled the main relay, soldered it back up, and its been a week now with no problems.
For whats its worth, I'm a total noob at soldering, and got it done with about 10-15 minutes of education from google, so if you've never done it before, its not really that difficult.

How do you test it? The DIY just shows how to do it.

your terminology is incorrect...cranking is turning over.

cranking is turning over, so you're cranking but not starting

I'd say main relay in that case

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

So I re-soldered most of the connections on the main relay. Hopefully that will take care of it. Also, I forgot to mention in my first post...It starts, but then "stalls" out right away. This is when it won't start for a minute or two. Still sound like a main relay problem?

Yes that sounds exactly like a main relay problem. Let us know how it turned out.
