ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    domelight and "key sensor"

My dome light works fine, but when I switch it to the middle, so it turns on when one of my four doors are opened, it doesn't turn on. Like I said, the bulb is fine, it turns on when I turn it to on.

I checked out the dome light housing, and to my non professional knowledge, it looks fine. I cleaned the contacts and it still doesn't turn on. My dash light for door ajar works, the little red doors open when I open those corresponding doors.

Also, whenever I open my door after I shut off the engine and take out the key (in that order), the car stills beeps as if the key is still in the ignition. Maybe they have something to do with each other?

I think all four door sensor wires meet up at some point, then from there go to the dome light. So I'm in search of that rendezvous point. maybe it's a bad wire or connection from there?

    Change the dome light first,

And about the key in beep, Push the key back in and pull it out you should hear a click and that should stop the beeping.

for the dome light thing, take off the sensors on the door jam. they look like little black switches. then open them up, & sand off the corrosion on the metal contact areas. then when you put it back make sure that the one plug that goes to them isnt loose.

So far the car hasn't beeped when I take out the key, and every time I take out the key so far I have listened for the click and it clicked. I guess just after old age the cylinders get a little sticky? Thanks brother, so far so good.

I just took apart the black sensors on all four doors, sanded the contacts a bit, visually inspected it and put some Vaseline on the contacts, and its the same problem. The red doors on the dash light up when the corresponding door is open, so the sensors should be fine.

I've got the same problem! Dome light works when it's in the "on" position, but it doesn't come on with my doors at all.. all my door sensors are fine as they all appear on the dash. This is really annoying at night!! I just thought it was the non functional alarm my car came with that was causing this since it could have been wired in??

that makes sense. When I bought mine, the previous owner had an alarm system installed, but removed it before I bought it. I have a clutser of random wires and connectors under my dash and a siren un plugged and shoved in between my clutch master cylinder and my brake booster haha.

I hope this isn't the problem because I do not wish to spend a weekend under my dash re splicing wires

Ah. How did I know you'd have some type of alarm? I think it's pretty safe to assume that's what's going on. Previous owner(s)? left the alarm installed, and plugged in but lost the key fob, so it's worthless. There's a jumble of wires and boxes hanging, including a shock sensor. Some of the wires on the harness to the Viper alarm box look cut, so I'd assume that could be it. If only I knew which one was for the dome light...

Yeah a perfect world I would look up the wiring diagram for under the dash, and with all my extra time that I have I would get under there and start slicing stuff together.

But I live in reality, so chances are I will never fix this haha.

If I ever get around to it, I'll make sure to send you a diagram or two, and visa versa

Sounds good! I'll get to it one day probably, and if I get any results I'll let ya know!

I think its your dome light. I dont want you to go to the extreme of tracing the wires by taking off the headliner. BUT it is connected at the right top corner of your windshield (looking from inside of the car).

I had some free time one day and I took out maybe 50 feet of useless alarm wiring under my dash and in my engine bay.

My dome light still doesn't turn on when I open up a door.

It can't be the bulb because when I turn the switch to "on" the light turns on. It's only when I put the switch in the center and open the door that it doesn't turn on

From your description, it seems your dome light switch is bad. Investing in a HELMS manual is priceless. Solved all of my problems so far. Not a bad investment at all. Let me know if you need the test procedure for the dome light switch. I will gladly help you out.
