ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Sorry to interrupt the coupe vs sedan debate...

I put a new plug in today. The threads on the head grabbed it fine. I'm starting to think inside of shot out completely, it maybe vibrated loose some. Then once it backed out enough, popped out.
Either way, all would seem fine again at the moment.

Sedans are awesome in form AND function

@phiend; Hope it all stays fine. This is the first time I've heard of a spark plug jumpin' out like that :x

It will need a heli-coil or some form of thread plug insert. Ideally a heli-coil would be fitted with the head off, but I've seen them fitted with the head in situ. To do this the heli-coil tap is covered in a substantial amount of grease so that all (?) the swarf gets caught in the grease rather than falling into the combustion chamber. To my mind this is a little risky as I can't see that you can guarantee that no swarf will end up inside the motor, but it is the cheaper option. An insert will definitely need the head off I'd expect.

In theory, either a heli-coil (or insert made of steel) will provide a less efficient heat pathway than the alloy of the head casting, to some degree impairing heat transfer from the plug to the head casting. Just how much of a problem this would be in practice I'm not sure, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to run a plug in the heli-coiled cylinder that was one heat range colder than the other three plugs...

The thread could have been damaged years ago and just been hanging on by it's fingernails since then, it may not have been caused by anything you did.
                      Regards from Oz,
                      John.

Glad to hear that, although i have never heard of such a problem.

I'm glad a new plug fixed your....unique.. problem. Otherwise it could have been real expensive.

Just took a quick look at what a head swap involves. Hopefully I'll be able to get around that somehow...
a cheaper route than a head swap would be a Heli-coil, its like a makeshift threaded insert and they might sell them, but im not sure. just be very careful not to get any chips into your cylinder. id find a way to introduce air into the intake manifold and make sure the intake valve is open to that cylinder so it would force the chips upward and hopefully out of the cylinder, but on the other hand, and h22 head would be fun right!

Ok back to your plug problem... you may have not stripped the hole with the new plug. Your'e working with dissimilar metals that are subjected to a lot of heat and will expand at different rates. Aluminum head, steel spark plug. The damaged probably happened when removing the old plugs. You just didn't notice the threads on the old spark plug. You can replace the threads by using an insert or you could replace the head. To keep it from happening again make sure you coat the thread of the plugs with anti-seize compound.
