ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Valve adjustment

I am getting ready to change all the seals for my VC and spark plugs and in the thread i read on it it says to check the valve clearance and such. i talked ot my mechanic buddy and he said it would be the tapits that would be adjusted. NOT the valve themselves. I am just a little confused on exactly what i will be doing. (May be due to the pictures on said thread not being there)

        Valve Tappet

        Don't be an ass.

A tappet in mechanical engineering is a projection which imparts a linear motion to some other component within an assembly. Properly speaking, a tappet is only that part of a rocker arm which makes contact with an intake or exhaust valve stem above the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine.

yes you adjust the rocker arms that press the valves down

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I figured that since you work in a machine shop, it might have clicked in your head that it was a tappet. That's all.

Personally i would rather be able to do it myself. My freind wont be doing all of my mechanic work for me when all i need is a few clarifications. How dumb would you feel when someone take time out of their day to work on ANOTHER CAR just like they have been all day everyday, just to say "Wow, i could have done that myself" when it's over. Then when something breaks that actually needs his attention, he "cant do it"

It is easy. Don't worry. You will need a set of feeler gauges, a set of wrenches and a screwdriver.

Follow the instructions listed in those 2 links above.

If you feel like it, run a head cleaner like Seafoam through the head before you do the adjustment.

The intake valves are more of a PITA than the exhaust valves due to their position.

Good luck! Don't be afraid to get in there and get this done.

I'd suggest a Haynes manual. I did my first valve adjustment on my car back in April and it had everything I needed to know, including pretty good pictures of what parts needed to be adjusted. It took me about an hour or two, but I didn't blow my engine up, lol. So it worked out well.

Oh I also did my lower tube seals since they were leaking, thats why it took so long.
