ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

beeping - key in ignition (even without key)

Here's the backstory. 1993 accord SE was stolen from the parking lot at work. Recovered 4 days later, still in one piece, but with everything missing from the trunk. The ignition lock cylinder was in bad shape, you could pretty much start the car with a screwdriver, which I'm sure was the implement of choice.

So...I replaced the ignition lock cylinder with a new one using the tutorial on these message boards, put everything back together, and the new ignition works nicely except for two things.

    1. Even when the key is out, if the door is open, the car is beeping to alert you the keys are in the ignition. it did this before I replaced the ignition, but I just assumed it was because the cylinder was trashed. Jiggling, etc. doesn't seem to make any difference.

    2. The steering column lock doesn't work. I'm not sure if this was the case before I replaced the ignition or not. I'm guessing this might be connected to problem 1.

I don't really know how the wiring went before the car was stolen, so I can't be sure it wasn't modified by the thieves. The car had an alarm installed from the dealer as far as I can tell (old owner had dealership receipts for alarm service) and I had to cut and then reconnect the orange wire going between the bundle to the ignition and the alarm circuitry. EDIT: The alarm was not functional at the time the car was stolen. I'm assuming that was already the way it was, but again, I don't recall for sure.

Any ideas for solving either issue would be greatly appreciated, and I'll just apologize now for the length of this post.

Hey man mine does that as well. What i do is leave it unless i need to have it off and the door open.

    Put the key in.

As you take it back out put a little pressure on it TOWARDS YOU and it should release the hammer in there. it just gets stuck. if it doesn't work that way try pressure the opposite way.

I just quick stick the key in and yank it out...that usually fixes it for me.

The hammer tends to get stuck due to old age.

Mine does that as well. Just put a little pressure downwards while pulling the key off like said above and the hammer will go off.

        Put some WD-40.

Thanks for the replies guys. The thing is, the lock cylinder is brand new. Inserting/removing the key, jiggling it, anything like that has absolutely no effect. I'm trying to figure out whether a) it is a wiring connection issue b)it is connected to the steering column lock. I'm going to try some graphite in the lock tomorrow and see if that helps (maybe it is just stuck because it is new and stiff) and then disassemble again this weekend to investigate further. Any other ideas though, be sure to keep them coming.
