ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

i have heard that a test pipe will give you around 1 hp over the stock cat...

and you risk a fine seeing as it's illegal.

Get a high flow cat if you want to do anything but to be honest, the cost to power ratio is ridiculous. You want to spend $100+ on a high flow cat to gain MAYBE 1hp max? Not worth it. Just get a good catback system and a good header. Leave your cat alone, it's not going to do anything except make your car sound loud and pingy.

It depends what you get. A high flow cat that doesn't do anything that a catalytic converter should do IS just a resonator (not resignater... that's not even a word). A catalytic converter has a purpose.

A test pipe is illegal in all 50 states, emission testing or not... though you usually won't be caught. You can gain SOME power, but not enough to really justify it. 1-2hp is about it.

If you want a good cat, go to www.sms-products.com and get one of their high-flow designs. SMSP is a well respected company, and they know what they're doing.

if you have the money get a chipped ecu so you can tune it and throw and gut the cat. it will look like you still have a functioning converter. they'll never pull your converter off to see if it works or not.

If I didn't have my heart set on a Bisimoto header, the SMSP header would definitely be my choice. I know SMSP has Bisi's respect as well.

A gutted cat provides unnecessary turbulence in the exhaust stream, and can actually result in LESS power.
Gutting a cat is about as smart as cutting your springs to lower your car.

i dont know mike. some people like to base hearsay after what they hear often, even though when they dont know the right answer for sure. maybe if we get permission to quote this and add this to our tech Myth busters stickies then a tad bit more people in this website will be informed.

My car ran better than it ever did, when I had the straight back exhaust. Noisy...but I loved it. My buddies all about this "back pressure" crap. Everytime I tell someone.."Man, my car feels like it's holding back because of the cat", they're all.."MAN, DON'T GET RID OF IT. YOU'LL LOSE BACK PRESSURE". I got this new engine put in the car...and still had the straight back exhaust, and ever since I put a Cat on it, and a muffler, it just doesn't run like it used to. Gas mileage went down, power loss. When I first got this engine, I ran 300 miles to Va. When I got the cat and shit put on, I went down to 240. (highway miles). So, this whole back pressure crap's gotta go. Very irritating.

If you wanna go straight back (test-pipe, etc), I say do it. There's mufflers out there that will kill your sound. Lets say...the Ws2 Apexi muffler. When I put my cat on...my car got LOUDER and HIGHER PITCHED, with the fart can on it. I got a Turbo Performance Muffler put on, and it's low...deep tone, and when I gun it, I hear more engine, than exhaust. But, I mean...if you want it loud, throw a fart can on it. There's ways to get around the sound. Now, if you have emissions, you're screwed. Wv doesn't have 'em, so I'm good.
