ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    engine knocking!!

can you fuck up a valve by not setting the engine to tdc before removing the rocker arm assembly?....

or by not torqing that assemly back down in the correct sequence?.....

    pretty sure you can.

    If you did you could

A: set a valve to be closed when it should be open.
this i assume would make it run like shit.

B: set a valve that should be closed to be open.
this could definitely = piston smacking valve. = BAM!

    thats a nono

i just remove the rocker assembly...once you remove that, the cam will be exposed and all the valves will be closed.

the only thing id worry about is the camshaft popping up from the distributor side but ive done the lower tube seals three times and the cam never moved.

0.5mm Oversized Stainless valves and bronze guides available. Pm me please.

Check your cam timing and valve adjustments.

Are you positive all the caps are torqued down and seated properly?

When you torque the caps down properly they seat against the mating surface on the cylinder head with creates the cams bore. Im just thinking of all wierd possibilties, perhaps theres a chance they werent completly torqued down.

If hes hearing a noise out of an exhaust port then thats usually an idication of a bad exhaust valve or one that held open. So I say again, recheck cam timing and valve adjustments. When you remove the rocker shaft and caps the valve springs are in the differant states of tension which causes the assembly to flex a little while removing. When installing you should torque them evenly to make sure everything pushes back into position as straigh as possible and that it all seats correctly because your pushing against several valve springs while doing this.

the first time we didnt torque them down in sequence, then after we loosend everything and bypass the start to turn it over it wasnt making any sound, then we torqued it in sequence and there the sound was again!

Did you check the valve lash, is it just a tapping rocker arm?

No, the only thing that will happen is that your valve tappet/stem clearences will be off and the head will tap/tick pretty nicely.I know this because I've had it happen/done it. This isn't timing that you fucked up, not enough of a clearence gap just from removing the rockers out of tdc to cause signifigant interference issue.

Loosen all the rocker assy bolts and torque them in the proper order. Set the motor to tdc and adjust the valves. Also a trick that I use to keep the cam in place when the rockers are off since it has jumnped on me once is to pull the cam cap for the transmission side off the rocker assy. and bolt it back onto the head to keep the cam down.

yeh man shouldnot make the valves hit pistons unless u were way off on ur timing,i assume u didnt take it apart not on tdc and put it back on tdc did you??without setting the crank first??ive seen that happen before, other then that something must not of been torqued properly, mayb some debris in a hole or something...
