ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    H23A Vtec Swap Questions

I am interested in doing this swap but I have a couple questions. Also anyone who doesn't believe this engine exsists needs a swift kick in the junk.

    Here's your proof:http://cgi.ebay.ca/JDM-H23A-DOHC-VTE...QQcmdZViewItem

    1. Can I swap the injectors off my F22 or will i need OBD1 H22A injectors?
    2. If anyone has done this swap before does the power steering swap over the same way an h22a does?
    3. I am planning on using a USDM P13 Ecu for this swap until I can get my hands on a P28 and tune it. If anyone can forsee issues with this please let me know.
    4. I am going to use an H23A NON-VTEC dizzy. Anyone forsee any issues here??

One last thing. If anyone knows something I don't... (ie. axles not fitting or mount issues) please let me know! I know it doesn't use ATTS so it should swap in no problem...

Thanks for any and all help. I realize that this engine is basically a stroked OBD2 H22A. And I have helped put this engine into a 5th gen lude and had my a** handed to me by that car a few times. I just want that small edge that H22A EuroR has without the hit in the pocketbook...

First of all, the H23a DOHC VTEC makes similar power to the H22a. it is not any powerful to the normal H22a, or even the H22a-R.

It is an OBD-II motor, and the ECU and TCU is one unit. I'm sure a few other OBD-I ECU's will work with it, since it's the same as any OBD-II to OBD-I conversion. Ditto the distributor assembly.

Yes, I know the H23a DOHC VTEC exists. I've seen a few before, I've sampled one. Not much different from an H22a.

I am not sure about the axles. Some say the axles wont fit unless you use the axle from the CF2. Some say it does, provided you use the inner CV Joint from the CF2.

Isn't the VTEC system less performance-oriented than the H22, Affandi?

Not from what I saw. The H23a DOHC VTEC head is very much similar to the H22a/F20B head. Three-lobe VTEC system, on both ports.

I suspect that it is tuned in that manner.

It's like the H22a in the CD6/CD8/CF2. Tuned to produce 190PS compared to the 200PS in the Prelude H22a.

If the H23a DOHC VTEC was tuned in a manner similar to the Prelude H22a, it would have put out more than 200PS, but 200 seems like a nice round number to Honda at the time

It would've been weird if Honda did what they did today with the bread-n-butter K-series (DOHC design, but SOHC implementation of VTEC), since emission standards were very much different at the time, and if the H23a DOHC VTEC put out say, 160PS (due to the SOHC VTEC in DOHC design), the SOHC VTEC F23a would have been very much redundant, IMHO.

So maybe Honda went 'almost' all out with the H23A DOHC VTEC. They slapped on the H22a head onto the F23a block, and christened it H23a. Not to be confused with the USDM H23A1. If they went all out with the H23a, it would have been knocking on the heels of the H22aR. 220PS from 2.3 litres is very much achievable, with a little bit more torque than the H22a.

I'm just speculating here. I was only a teenage kid with raging hormones at the time Honda introduced the CF2 Accord Wagon SiR.

Honda seemed to love the number 200 at the time.

The B18B made 200PS, the H22A (prelude) had 200PS, and the F20B-T spec had 200PS as well.

4 engines within the same generation with similar power ratings.

I think they are called a frankenstien motor. They don't come like that but is put together like that. Same as ls/vtec.

              Most probably a factory frankenstein.

I read somewhere that the H23a VTEC was the F23a with an H22a head. Google is failing me tonight.

If the bore and stroke of the F23a and H23a VTEC are similar, then yes, we have a winner.

                Google is now friend again.

                H23a DOHC VTEC:

                Bore: 87mm
                Stroke: 95mm

                F23a SOHC VTEC:

                Bore: 86mm
                Stroke: 97mm

Different bore and stroke, therefore, the H23A VTEC was not derived from the F23A.

Anybody else have the bore and stroke for the USDM H23A1?

It's prob the old H23A w/an H22A or bored out F20B automatic head

I say F20B auto cause with the H22A head that motor would be rated at about 210-220HP

I doubt honda would put an inferior f23a block and match it with a h22a head. It wouldn't be able to handle the same revs as long as the h22a block would. So its definately a bored h22 block. And it takes more than pistons a hanlde the performance of a h22 block

Actually they kept the H22/H23 bore and used the H23 crank. It wouldn't take much, the redline is set at 7000 RPM. Cylinder pressures are not that much higher from an H22 to H23

the auto F20B and H22a head are very similar.

The manual F20B has the 'sportier' head

                            Sounds good but,

USDM Prelude H32 isnt = H32A DOHC VTEC

An old thread I made addressing this engine

To those that haven't bothered reading, I'll keep it short:

The H23A is a DOHC VTEC motor not found in the USA or Canada. It came in 6th generation Accords ONLY. OBD2.

                              The H23A1 is a non-VTEC Prelude motor. OBD1.

There's roughly a 35hp difference. The H23A is fairly uncommon.
