ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

will cleaning EGR + egr ports really give more MPG?

Will cleaning the EGR ports give more MPG or can i get away with just cleaning the EGR module ?

The ports look like a royal pain in the ass on a 1990(have to drill em out).

Car is way above what its rated to get(19/26 mpg rated), but it has 230K and EGR + ports have never been cleaned. I'm not getting an CODES on the ecu aka check engine light.

Wondering if all that trouble will be worth it, my ram air intake gave me an extra 2mpg and it was simple as hell.

    What do you guys think?

how do you get to those 2 bolts on the EGR under the hood?

They are DIRECTLY under the egr so I cannot get my damn wrench on them straight. What i mean is, the EGR is on top, the bolts that attach it directly underneath and you cannot get the wrench straight on them, ideas?

what are you talking about? there are two 12mm nuts you remove in order to take off the EGR valve. they are easily accessible from the top.

No they aren't, I've tried. I'm using a socket wrench, tried super short extension and my 4" extension. I cannot get in there straight to get a grip on the washers. The washers line up with the edge of the EGR therefore, a direct line of operation is not possible. I cannot get a grip on the damn things

x's 2 on getting a swivel. You might also be able to get a box end wrench in there.
carb cleaner or brake cleaner work great.
