ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Driveshaft Replacement: Should it touch the tranny housing?

Ok I'm putting in a new driveshaft. Is it more important that you hear the click of the snap ring when you stick it into the tranny, or is it important that it's touching (or very close to touching) the transmission housing? Mine is like a half an inch or maybe a little more from the tranny.

Has anyone here experienced this confusion? I've heard some people say that they didn't put the axle in far ENOUGH, and also some people say just to make sure that you hear the click of the snap ring.

Basically, there were two points where it stuck in. The first was like 2 inches away from the housing, and then it went in further, and clicked. However, is this close enough?

I realize this is awfully hard for others to answer, so if you would, please just tell me your experiences (and maybe warnings?) and I'll just have to see what I think I should do.

    Thanks in advance!

Hey, Try to pull it out. If it wont come out without using a prybar then the snapring is in properly... just don't pull on the axle shaft itself I had a bad experience when I accidently pulled on the alxe and it separated from the input.

compress the axle together and use a dead blow to knock it back in otherwise you're going to need two people to push. compressing is important because you want all the energy to transfer to the end of the axle and not in between the balls and joints of the axle.

I just installed passenger and driver side axles last night on my sons SE. Yes the axle needs to be as close to the trans as possible 1 to 2 inches is not going to cut it and yes you should hear or feel a click when you got in in all the way.

No problem. It helps a lot to see the detail. Thanks so much! Yep, just as I thought I'll have to push it in further. Son of a bitch!

In the last picture it looks as if it is touching. It should not be touching, just very close.

Yeah I didn't think anyone would mind so that's why I didn't resize them after I saw them. I would have done it but like you said with it being larger that you could get a better idea of how close it should be. Measure twice, cut once man. If you mess up the splines on those axles then you'll have to get new ones so it's pretty much a one chance deal. Like I said before though if you need anymore pics or anything just pm me or something. I have to go for a job interview today at 4 so i'll be leaving the house at like 3 but I have a drop light and everything and can jack the car up to get better pics for you when I get back. Either way just let me know.

Yeah it's just close. I've done axles on more than a few of my cars and have been riding on these two since last December with no problems.

By the way, on a completely unrelated note

go to www.allamericanrejects.com and listen to their newest single on their main page. Great song!

Yeah it was completely in. I just didn't feel down into the gap to see that the metal cylinder just past the inner joint actually has an angled edge near the tranny. I couldn't feel it because it angles down away from my fingers.

On, and I went to put in the other driveshaft last night and it was the wrong one and the CV joint was broken. I called TASAuto and they immediately put in to send me a new one. I have continuously been pleased by TASAuto. They run a great business and have great support for their customers. I will continue to buy from them!!
