Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    whining noise?

just wondering if anyone has had a whining noise as the rpm's climb coming from the engine...i was told it was the timing belt since it was new that was too tight but anyhow...sounds like a supercharger to me lmao

it can be the input shaft bearing going out........

could be anything from the power steering pump to the alternator to the tranny going bad to any number of bearings.

I had the same problem and it was the PS pump. was told to take a long screw driver and put the tip anywhere on the pump and put my ear to the handle.

you can hear the internals working through vibrations. get a really long one for the alt. and check them both.

and does it do it when your IN gear or all the time?

but if you hear a whine from either the alt or the PS pump, remove the belt and start it. it'll run for a few minutes with just the battery. if the whining goes away after you remove a belt, there is your problem.

Whining noises are often times typical shortly after a new timing belt is installed... sounds like you have a supercharger when accelerating. I'm not quite sure why this is, tension on the bearings from a new belt? Anyway, it should go away within a few thousand miles of having the belt changed. How long ago was the t-belt replaced?

My 96 Accord had the same whine after both timing belt replacements and now my 93 sounds supercharged after I just had the belt replaced today. If it doesn't quiet back down to normal within a few thousand miles, I'll have it checked out... as you should too. Please keep us posted.

Since I replaced my T belt I've had a whine that can be heard between approximately 1500rpm to 2000rpm, but is slowly becoming less.

I suspect it's because the teeth on the timing sprockets are old and worn, i.e. the corners of the teeth are no longer crisp as they would have been when new, and the old timing belt teeth are worn into this chraracteristic of the sprocket teeth and thus run quietly.

When we fit a new belt it has nice new sharply defined teeth that don't quite match the worn teeth on the old timing sprockets, and as a result the teeth make some noise as the belt and sprocket move into mesh as they rotate. Over time the teeth on the new belt round off slightly on the corners, and the belt quites down.

I don't know how correct this is, but it's a theory. I know gears make a lot of noise if they don't match each other perfectly, I once did an emergency gearbox rebuild making one gearbox out of two, which meant running old gears in mesh with other old gears from the other box, the gears not being run-in from new to that particular other gear. Sounded a bit like straight cut gears....
