ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Car won't start... can anyone help?

so i bought a 92 Accord lx off of Craigslist the other day and the guy i bought it from told me i should sign up on here... had a weak starter, has an h23 IM and TB and the tps doesn't have a coolant line hooked up to it so it idle surges.. last night the Check Engine light popped on and the car started idling normal, i was a bit excited, trade a small yellow light for the car to idle right lol, but today my car won't start! I don't think it's getting spark, the guy told me that he'd recently replaced the distributor... in the morning i'm going to replace the Coil, Starter, and Main Relay... can anyone suggest anything else i should check or replace???

If your check engine light is on, check this thread out man. http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...t=Diagnose+CEL

Yes sir, you're in the right place. Plenty of help on this forum. This forum's the reason I kept my Cb, and replaced the engine, instead of getting rid of it when the old engine blew.

Most common reasons for a no start, has to do with something in the distributor. 85% of the threads I read about the car not starting, was the Igniter, which is inside the distributor.

When my starter went bad, it just clicked when I turned the key. Not sure if that happens with all starters, but check everything else before you get into a starter. They aren't too cheap.

        X2 as above.

If you are going to replace the coil, you should do the ignitor at the same time.
Have you confirmed there is no spark?

        And welcome to the site

thanks... i'm gonna throw a starter on there tomorrow cuz i know that's bad... i'm gonna try an ignition coil as well... we'll start small lol. then if still no spark i'll throw a distributor on there!!! but he said that he had already thrown a distributor on before i bought it... we even tried to kick start it and it'll act like it starts but won't go and eventually will just stop... it's priming the fuel pump and the starter clicks... so i really have no clue what it could be.

starters and coils arent small. those cost a few bux each.

maybe you should run your codes and make sure you have a good, strong charging system before you go throwing parts at your car. what makes you think the starter is bad? if it was a starter problem then your WOULD have started on your push start.

auto repair is about knowing what is wrong with the car and repairing it specifically. not just tossing parts everywhere and eventually fixing the problem.

i got the ignition coil, distributor, and starter for 40 bucks at a local junk yard, so that's why i said start small, cheap and easy to do lol... then if that stuff fixes it i can buy new parts later.... but the guy i bought it from told me it needed a starter, it was weak. so i put the new one on and it cranks just beautiful... i checked all my plug wires and made sure my distributor clips had a good connection, then it fired right up... wound up not even needin the new distributor and coil, guess i got some spares lol... CEL is still on and car idle normal, which is weird since no coolant goes through the tps lol. but at least it's runnin now!!! guess it was a bad connection.

When the CEL comes on, the ecu often goes into "limp mode," where it uses pre programmed settings for ignition timing and fuel mixture and disregards inputs from sensors.

Did you pull the code yet? You won't get the performance that you should with the CEL on.

Also, you should check your battery. If it was weak it might lead to starting problems (I did see that you aren't having trouble now, just saying)
