ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Battery light

So last night the battery light was "on" all the time on my car and also today, but a few weekes ago the guys from autozone check the battery and it was fine.
What do you thing should be the next thing to check or maybe it's the battery?

Alternator. if it's going out it might charge enough to start and run but not enough still. get that checked.

put a volt meter to the battery terminals. with the engine on your voltage should be 13 to 14.6. if under that then its a bad alternator..

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.

voltage regulator or the entire alternator

when they check the battery they need to do it with the engine off, then with the engine running.

The first figure tells the battery's voltage level, the second gives the voltage level the entire charging system is putting out.

but yeah, check the pre-startup and engine-running voltage levels. It could be the alternator or your battery could be bad or it could be just the voltage regulator, which is part of the alternator.

The Autozone where I live has some really amazingly knowledgeable people, but everywhere is different.

even gettin parts from autozone is a hassel. i went there for a axel and the girl looked at me and said "they don't make one for ur car". i lost my cool at that point

and yea the batt lights comes on when ur alt is bout to go. a trick ive done is get a hammer and smack it a few times. not beat the shit out of it. couple good taps. mine went out like almost 6 months ago and i still have it workin on my car now. but have another one at the house tho. doesn't always work, but it worth a try, i mean u bout to do a core on it anyway.

Check the terminals and the grounds. I had a similar problem and it was the wires to the green plug on the alternator and the plug itself was all corroded... so I did some repair work on those and wrapped with with some heat-shied since the heat from the exhaust was causing the insulation on the wires to crack off and oxidise the wires.

Make sure that the ground wire for your engine and from the battery to the frame is not all corroded or loose. You can check the resistance with an OHM meter... there should be very little resistance from the battery to the engine and the frame. 3-5 ohms I think would be the max.

Yes, good advice. Always check the connections whenever there's a voltage/power issue.

Speak of the devil I just replaced mine last night. That was a fun chore. I had two issues, the light kept coming on then going off. Plus it was loud as hell (bearings). I wanted to upgrade grade it any ways so I got a 160 amp off ebay for like $120 shipped. Works great. Though if you go that big you have to upgrade the wiring to support it. It was a pain to get out unlike some others I have replaced.
