ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    cold air intake

Hey, I was told that it's better to go with a 2 piece cold air intake that way in the winter you can switch it up to a short ram, to avoid getting water in your engine. I was wanting some input on this to see what other people thought of this idea.

You can do that, run a short ram intake, or run a CAI and have a water bypass too... Many options, and none are really wrong...

I ran a CAI but changed to a short ram intake because of how low I was.

stock air box with K&N filter is going to have the best response in a daily driver. cold air setup will work fine too but may not be practical depending on where you live. short ram is no good.

The difference in power between a short ram and a cold air intake is minimal. The air in the engine bay is moving when you're in motion, so you're not sucking in significantly "hot" air.

it's mostly the larger tubing but mostly the more free flowing air filter that does the trick. Match the ID to the ID of your TB and plenum and get a good filter

I was wondering about these intakes. How does this effect gas mileage? I assume it would make it worse. I was thinking about getting a K&N but don't want to decrease my MPG.

It's SUPPOSED to make it better, but most of what I've seen, the ECU sees more air and compensates with more fuel. With a properly tuned ECU, you can improve mileage over stock, but that's fairly involved... not as simple as installing a "chip".

I wish Iceman still made intakes for our cars. I'd much rather have a plastic intake than an aluminum one.

I guess I could wrap mine with header wrap, but, that defeats the purpose of spending money on a name brand intake.

I'd really like to find a carbon/kevlar "whale penis" intake

Hahah i saw one of those ^^ on a civic at my mechanics shop, boy it sure looked funny as hell, it was carbon, and another shape i could compare it too would be a kazoo.

As for the two piece intake, its good logic, but a bypass valve on a cai will prevent you from sucking water into the engine.

                      Minimal.

And how hard it rains doesn't matter. If you submerge the filter, you're fucked.

^^^ To the flywheel... You can have a CAI and gain more but as stated you will slighty waste a bit more gas. where you are located is the key my friend. Weather is going to be your deciding factor.
