ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I think they don't sell r12 anymore coz it kill the ozone. If I remember correct, r134 is ok. But then again, my CB AC quit working a while back.

R12 can still be found but, it's hard to find and a lil pricey. As far as the conversion, it's 2 replacement valves that fit over your exsisting ac valves. they need to be installed with the system empty, your exsisting valves have to have the pins removed before you install the new ones. The valves cost anywhere from $5.00-$10.00 for the pair.

Do not go 134a, yes it will work, but only to about 60-70% efficency compared to r12. The better thing to use is called Freeze-12, its practically identical in molecular structure to r12, but it doesn't contain the ozone eating chloro-flouro-carbons. Enough R12 to recharge your system will run around $300, enough freeze-12 is about $70.

                  You need R134 fittings

Can Freeze-12 be run with the r12 valves? Or is there a need to upgrade the system as you would when converting to 134a?

r134a worked fucking great the last two summers in my car with a half ass charge and leak.

It was efficient. On a hot humid day when the A/C would kick on steam would pour out the vents like opening a freezer.
                      wat?

I haven't had working AC in my CB7 since 2003. The AC compressor is going to be replaced by another sort of... kompressor... very shortly.

While 134a is cheap and many vehicles can convert R12 is much colder. I am fortunate to have a still good AC system on my 90. I converted my 84 supra and have had nothing but issues with it. I have heard of people with supras that the compressor dies do to lack of lubrication. Most of the 134a products include this or offer an additional product that will lubricate the compressor. If you can avoid it I would not covert, but it is a lot of money to keep R12.

Freeze-12 can be run with your r12 valves no problem.

Also 134a requires more airflow through the radiator in order to cool as efficiently as r12, thats why 134a systems have a seperate radiator dedicated to it. Esther oil (i believe thats what its called) is what you use to retrofit an r12 system to 134a. You also never want to get r12 & 134a mixed together, or it will cycle your compressor on/off till it burns out its clutch.

I just found out there is also another product that can be used in both r12 & 134a systems, that works even better then the true formula for either one. Its called Industrial 12a. I have also heard of people using propane instead of freon.
