ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Upper Radiator Hose

F%@K!!! I just got home from work and I noticed I left a couple wet drops on my driveway(that usually spells trouble)RRRR!. Upon lookin under the hood while having that hopefully its nothing look on my faceI saw that my upper radiator hose sprung a leak...theres a pin size hole squirting out coolant. I really don't wanna do the work right now(ITS HOT AS HELL)but it's my DD. So I was thinking should I go ahead and do the theromostat(did i spell that right) while I'm at it and what temp should I get to open it at. What you guys think??I need some motivation LOL

Are you referring to the hose that goes to the back of the engine? or the one that goes from the Radiator to the engine (from the front)...

Cause the themostat is on the back of the engine...techincally its apart of lower radtiator hose..

You need to put the egg in while its cold though. then it circulates with the coolant for a minute before it cooks....plugging the hole

You're right. And yeah I would go ahead and do the thermostat while you having it apart if it hasn't been done in a while. It's cheap and wouldn't hurt.

Use rubber cement and glue a patch of bike inner tube material over the pinhole, then wrap the whole thing with duct tape until you're ready to fix it the right way/ the weekend.

Personally if it were me I'd skip replacing the thermostat and wait till the thermostat fails.

If you are replacing the thermostat, it is a wax pellet type thermostat (the wax melts, which opens the valve) so you can't really adjust the temperature it operates at--it is supposed to open at 190F and comes designed to do so (the wax melts at 190F).

why wait till it fails?.. they cost like tops of 10 dollars and take like 5 mins to replace

and while your replacing the thermostat..why not just pick up a piece of hose the right diameter and length from the auto store and just replace that at the same time? not very expensive for either things
You don't have to like what he did, but I would hope that you can appreciate the time, money and love that went in to the build. If you can't, you're not really an enthusiast, just another dumb kid with a car.-visualpoet

That's a valid point of view. Fact is, though, I've never had a thermostat fail on me so far.

My suggestion for the patch was for if you don't have time to go get the part etc at that very moment and have the patch material on hand.

Yeah i've had a hose burst on me when I was away from the house before. We wrapped it up with tape really good and it did fine to get me to the parts store. I wouldn't drive it far but if that's the only way for you to get to auto zone or something then just keep an eye on things and get there asap.
