A few weeks ago I had started a thread about a strange whining noise coming from my engine bay that I couldn't pin point. I removed my abs control unit because the abs light was annoying me and the noise stopped. I thought that the noise must have been somehow connected to the abs system, but a week or so later that noise came back. I was able to track it down and it is coming from the air booster valve. I have read that this can be removed with no ill effects, but I can not find any info around the forum on how to go about doing so. Is it better to remove it all together or replace the part? If anyone has removed/replaced one before, could you give me a quick run down? Thanks

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

air booster valve

from what i understand, the air boost valve is for extra vacuum during cold start up...the jdm motors did not come w/ them...when i did my swap, it didnt have one, it came w/ a block off plate. so when i smogged/reff'd my car, i swapped my block off plate w/ a friend's air boost valve...all it is, is 2 bolts, and a vacuum line that connects to the throttle...Originally posted by des0ne View PostA few weeks ago I had started a thread about a strange whining noise coming from my engine bay that I couldn't pin point. if you have a whining noise from it, why not try and fix it? if i remember correctly, it has 2 o-rings under the valve. check them to make sure that they aren't worn and leaking...they aren't that expensive, and you can also pull one from a junkyard as well

Sounds like a vacuum leak your describing, How did exactly you narrow it it down to the ABV?
You don't need the abv as myself and many other members here have disconnected it.

I tracked it down by quickly poping the hood when it would make that sound and I narrowed it down to the center-rear of the engine bay. It would usually quiet down really fast so i couldnt pin point it exactly, until yesterday. I lasted a little longer and I was able to track it down to the ABV by getting down close with a good ear and verifying it with the old screw driver to the ear trick.
I think I'm going to try and fix it just so I can have something to tinker with. thanks for the info, guys!
