ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    91 Accord Ex build...

So I have an 91' Accord Ex thats pushing 200,000 miles in the next month or so. I'm burning oil, coolant, and gas. I want to pick up a engine and rebuild it from the ground up before my current engine dies on me. I was on another forum and was advised to go with an h22 or h23 swap which both sound good, but I don't have the funds to go that route. There is a guy selling a f23a1 block w/ pistons, rods, and crank($100) and another guy selling a 94 accord ex engine (150). Would either of these work in my car? I would rather take the complete engine, but if the block shows better performance potential than I would go that way. Any advice would help thanks...

The F22B1/2 and F23A engines aren't very good for performance. You'd be MUCH better off finding another F22A and building that. Believe it or not, the F22A head has the ability to outflow an H22 head.

The fastest NA FWD Honda in professional drag racing at the moment is running an F22A making over 400whp.

Check the sticky thread at the top of this section that discusses adding 30hp to an F22A1 for under $500.

Thanks Deev; sweet thread even for the biggest novice. Would this setup take any boost?

Yeah, depending on the motor's health, you can boost 6-10psi with proper parts and a good tune. These are old motors though, so when dealing with boost, alwaye prepare for the worst. I honestly wouldn't boost my daily driver... Hell, I bought a 2 cars for boost. Crashed one the day I finished gathering parts, then sold the parts... The other one, I've decided to restore rather than boost...

Deeve, do know if a vtec out of a 94 accord ex will fit in my 91?

                  Yes, it will fit.

No, it's not a good idea. It's a downgrade. A terrible motor for performance. Good only if you NEED a replacement, and someone drops it in your lap.

I'm getting it for $150. I was reading in one of the sticky post on this site that it comes stock ~15-20 hp more than mine.

                      Yeah, it comes with 145hp.

However, if you want to modify it at all, it has very little potential. It's a garbage motor. The head flows like shit.

good to know. What minor upgrades can I do to the f23 besides cold air intake? I need the f23 for now due to the condition of the f22. I can build up the f22 while I use the f23.

You can find F22's for that price sometimes. They're not too expensive. If you're going to build one for boost you'll have plenty of time in between gathering parts to come across a good deal on one.

The only reason I'm considering the f23 is b/c its clean and ready to run (after i do some minor preventive maintance) and the f22 is just having issues. But since the f22 is the way to go I'm going to put it on a engine stand, strip it, and build it back up with some mods. Can I start a build log now???

The F22B1 and F23A1 are very similar (and offer similar performance, though the F23A1 offers a little more...)

If you're going to get either, then I would suggest leaving whichever you choose completely stock, and concentrate on building the F22A.

The F23A1 is an OBD2 motor, so you'd need to either get a custom tune on a modified ECU, or run the OBD1 ECU that controls the 94-95 F22B1, as it's the closest OBD1 equivalent to it.

Both motors will take some extra wiring for VTEC.
