ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

      F22B1 or F23A1?

Are you sure you're going to be able to do this swap? You don't even seem to know what engine you're picking up...

What do you mean? I currently have a f22a4 engine in my car, that's giving me problems. I'm picking up a f23b1 vtec. I'm not sure where f23a1 came into play...I'm very mechanically inclined; I worked on cars for about 8yrs with my uncle. If I tear it down I can put it back together. I haven't tried and engine swap before so that's why I have so many question

There is no such thing as an F23B1.

Too many damn letters and numbers...the f22b1 is obd1 correct? And should be a plug and play swap except for the vtec?

Look for a DIY thread by DarkCloud on how to install the F22B1.

                If it's from 94 or 95, it's OBD1. If it's 96-97, it'll be OBD2, and you'll need the OBD1 parts to make it work.

I just finished reading it...I didn't understand the part about the ecu. He mentioned "ECU'S that can be used are POA which is from 94-97 accords not worth b'cuz vtec is not noticable." What does that mean? If I pull the ecu from the donor car it won't recognize the vtec in my car?

Ignore that. I should probably edit that out, because it's bad advice.

Use the P0A ECU from a 94-95 Accord EX (the proper OBD1 F22B1 ECU)

Ok, have you read the thread by Acclude91? Darkcloud made the swap sound a lot easier. which should I follow?

There are questions now about exhaust. Can I use the a4's exhaust manifold if there is a question of clearance?

DarkCloud basically wrote his based on Acclude91's thread. He made it because Acclude91's thread no longer has pictures.

I'm not sure about the exhaust clearance. I have never, and would never, put a F22B1 into my car.

Gotcha, thanks for the help. I'll spend the week replacing seals, gaskets, and changing belts. Hopefully I'll be ready in the next two weeks to put it in. Thanks again.

If you want simplicity, I would get the 94-97 Accord EX 4cyl motor (F22b1), assuming the block is in good condition. I'd only use the block and send your current F22ax head for reconditioning, slap it on. I'd replace any necessary external engine seals and do timing belt/water pump job and be done. This can retain your stock engine management system because you have essentially built another F22ax engine. The F22bx blocks are same as F22ax.

If you're willing to put a little more effort for some performance increase, get the F23 block, if in good condition. Use that block and recondition your F22ax head, slap it on. This will give you more static compression and slightly more stroke. Basically, it will be a torquey motor for a 4 cylinder. This will require a chipped ECU with dyno tuning, so you may as well throw in a slightly more performance-oriented camshaft to get more of a bang for the buck, since you have to get tuned anyways.

Either route, keep in mind you will have to invest more than just the initial purchase of a replacement block to do the job right and have it last you. Otherwise, don't even start the job if you intend to half-a$$ it. You're better off having a professional do an entire rebuilt motor replacement, swap a full good used engine replacement or just get another car.

NA means naturally-aspirated or another term for all-motor.
