ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Could toe be adjusted by hand?

Could toe be adjusted by hand by the tie rod ends? I want to do alignment at home.

Yes. Park the car someplace where you can pull it in straight (so the wheels are straight as possible, and the steering wheel is centered as closely as possible) With the car sitting on the ground, measure from center to center (You can also "hook" the center tread with the end of the tape measure and measure to that edge of the other tire's tread as long as you hook it the opposite direction on the other side of the tire) on the front side of the tires and the back side of the tires. Adjust the tie rod ends until the numbers are the same.

I did this to my Corolla after replacing both tie rod ends and when I took it to get it aligned, they told me it couldn't get any better than it already was!

Make sure you measure front and back of the tires as close to the center height wise as possible to keep things accurate.

Doing it by hand is what the shops do. Doing it by eye is where the problem is. Some poeple get lucky, or they have a very good sense of what they're doing... and end up with near perfect alignment like visualpoet's Corolla.

However, most people can't tell by eye if wheels are properly aligned. There are gauges that are used to do an alignment when an electronic alignment machine isn't used. It would be wise to pick up a set if you want to start doing alignments yourself. You might be able to find them cheap, since everyone is electronic now.

You could adjust the alignment by eye from being terrible to being not so bad... but you won't know if it's right or not until you start seeing wear in your tires. Seeing as tires cost $400 or so, if you quickly lose 20% of your usable tire life because you didn't align the wheels properly, you've already wasted the money it would have taken to get your alignment done properly!

It CAN be done, but there's no guarantee that you're going to do it right without the proper tools (even then, no guarantee!)
