ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

'S' light plus check engine lite help please

Ever since I acquired the CB7 a couple of weeks ago the speedometer has'nt been working...would put it in D4 and as soon as I started to move the check engine light would come on and the S light would start to blink. I have'nt driven it since I got it so I could clean it up and fix other stuff...so today I changed out the VSS thinking that was it...well still the same problem...except the S light starts blinking even before the car moves anywhere...and the speedometer still does'nt work...maybe I should recheck my connections when I replaced the VSS? The plug was a little hard to get together...

i had the same problem with my cb7 the day after i bought it , you need a new speed sensor its mounted on top of your tranny, trust me on this one, i just had to replace mine. a tranny shop told me it was the trans computer but it was the speed sensor. call honda they'll tell you the same thing. my check engine light came on too. i know that is your problem, so start checking preices on a new speed sensor. any questions more pm me

thanks for the info...I just replaced the vehicle speed sensor yesterday...I noticed when I had the old one in there the check engine light and S light would'nt come on until I started to move forward...now they both come on right after I start the engine before I move...I'm guessing the connection is'nt good...

The flashing lights are indicating error codes. The S light shows an error code in the TCU (transmission computer) and the check engine light (CEL) shows an error in the ECU (engine computer). Without properly reading these codes, you cannot possibly know what the problem is. The VSS is certainly possible, yes. However, there are plenty of other things that could be setting that light off.

union76, read the "sticky" threads in the Technical section of this site to learn how to read your error codes. Don't go buying any parts until you know what it is that you have to fix.

all right I'll do that...is there an LED or do you just count the number of times the check engine light blinks? I could'nt find an LED on the TCM or ECM...

IACV and ECT codes...those are actually pretty rare codes. first off, check if they are plugged in and also check with key on engine off, check for power on one of the pins.

it could be an open in the wiring considering all of the wires are all around the speed sensor (minus IACV)

The S light indicates TCU codes. Lock up solenoid A and the VSS.

The CEL flashes the ECU codes, unless you have a 90 model, which I believe DOES have an LED.

thats wierd cuz both mine and the project car are 90's and i was able to get codes. maybe a late 89 car?

I think the CEL may also work. I believe the 90 models have an LED on the ECU, though.

That's the reason a lot of people keep insisting that the 90 is OBD0 (which it is not... all CBs are OBD1, at least all US models)

well, one more reason they might do the LED is because there might not be a SCC by the passenger kick panel. i ran into this with another 90.

I checked the IACV connector and it has power going to it...I just cleaned the IACV with throttle body cleaner before this problem so I wonder if that has something to do with it? On another note...the engine also has a hard time starting and staying running now...it'll crank and then act like it wants to start but won't...on the 4th or 5th try it'll start and idle really low...did'nt have this problem before I cleaned it out...
