ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Battery Caught On Fire!!!!!

Hey guys i dont know what happened but on my way to work.. i saw smoke comin from my hood on the passenger side...i thought a hose blew,, but when i looked at my temperature needle it was normal.. then i parked my car a couple blocks away at work..opened my hood and saw that my battery was on fire..wat can cause this as i was very lucky to catch it and put it out before...well u know ..i had a metal battery holder kinda thing that held it in place...could the wire have touched that and cause a spark?? cuz now that wire is toast

if the tie down had crossed both termianls at once then, i think its possible, since that would cause sparking and such. any pics?

dont forget, the sulfuric acid and lead inside the battery create hydrogen gas when performing their chemical reaction. some of it could have leaked out and gotten sparked by something. the hydrogen flames (which can not be seen by the naked eye except in VERY dark places) could have easily set the plastic of the battery on fire.

Or his alternator could be on the fritz, and tried charging the battery at 16 volts which would boil the acid and could cause it to catch fire or even explode. Otherwise the battery is leaking or the terminals got short-circuited.

I work at Advance auto parts and you have no idea how many times I see this same exact thing happen. It could be an alternator over charging, defective battery

This is very true and is the most common thing that causes this kinda thing. Still sucks that it happened but good thing you notice it when it did happen.

My dad's '99 F250 had a bad alternator regulator once and the alternator was putting out over 18 volts causing the battery to get extremely hot, bulge, and the acid boil out. So the alternator definitely could be the problem.
