ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

You mean the trans shield? - It will come out you just have to play with it.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

the tranny shield (manual car, right?) just unbolts and lifts straight off the tranny. It's basically like a lid that's bolted on. It could be rusted on; try tapping it gently with a hammer to shock it--after making sure you've actually removed all the bolts that hold it on. There are 3 or 4. Also you can try prying is a little at the very bottom of it, where there's an opening big enough to put a big screwdriver in and twist against the tranny housing.Originally posted by jake93lx View Postok if its supposed to just drop out i doesn't... i managed to get the pan completely loose but the trans shield is underneath it so someone put it on wrong or something...
Also, have you removed the engine dropout bar that runs front to back underneath the engine? You might have to remove that to make more room to maneuver. I know I did when I replaced my oil pan
Don't worry, it doesn't hold the car together.
Another problem will be the exhaust pipe A section that comes down from the exhaust manifold. If you haven't removed that, the oil pan *will not* have enough room to come down, and even if you could somehow angle it off, you can't reinstall it that way because you need a straight vertical shot to put the oil pan back up or you'll mess up the new gasketing you will have carefully arranged across the mating surface of the oil pan.
I suggest unbolting the exhaust at the exhaust manifold, then undoing all the hangars all the way back to the muffler and dropping the whole exhaust to the ground and pulling it to the side of the vehicle (spray the rubber exhaust hangers with silicone lube to get them slippery enough to pull them off the metal hooks). Or leave it the exhaust hanging at the muffler and just kind of angle the rest of it to the side.
That is much less hassle than trying to undo the bolts just ahead of the catalytic converter, unless those bolts are absolutely pristine.
To reinstall/lift the exhaust back up after your job is done, use some clothesline to winch it up and hold it in place. It also helps to have 2 extra jackstands to place along the length of it and hold it somewhat up, although I bet you could get by without that and just use the rope and some cinderblocks or something.Last edited by batever; 03-19-2010, 09:23 PM.
