ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    new head bolts required?

Hey, I was wondering is it absolutely needed to replace the head bolts when removing the head from the engine?

it is HIGHLY recommended as the original head bolts tend to stretch. Stretched headbolts = improper head gasket seal. Improper seal = oil and coolant mix. Mixture = ARP head bolts are fine to re-use since they do not stretch after bein installed and removed.

edit: sorry i was bored. But i think you get the point

It is recommended by some. I have re-used Honda head bolts on any regular head gasket job that I've ever done. Unless the manual states that they are to be replaced.

ARP bolts stretch as well, they have a stretch limit and ARP recommends that they only be re-used 3 times.

Unless your are planning on going with a 13:1 or higher compression ratio or running a 400whp turbo setup. OEM Honda head bolts will do just fine. But for the extra piece of mind you can buy a set of 200,000 psi ARP head studs.

No that is not neccessary. Make sure to clean the old bolts and then soak them overnight in clean motor oil. Also make sure the threads in the block are as clean as you can get them, compressed air is great for this. If you don't have access to compressed air a can of CO2 or carb/throttle body cleaner with the the straw on it will work. After everything is clean, lube the treads of the bolts with engine oil and tq to the recommended Honda specs.

thanks, another question if i may, i bought a used head with about 70,000 miles on it, 8 of the exhaust valves have a hard corrosion on them, would it be ok to use sand paper to remove the corrorsion, ive all ready pressure wash the head with degresser and used carb cleaner to clean the ports, this corrosion is only thing keeping this head from looking like it only has 10,000 miles on it.
