ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Check engine light & reading codes

This past week I've been getting cel when driving. Usually around 70mph when the light comes on. When I shut the car off and start it again the light will be off.
I read the sticky for reading codes and this is what codes im throwing.
12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve
14 IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve
    43 Fuel supply system

    The TCU codes are
1-Lock-up solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
2-Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
7-Shift Solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.

After utilizing the search button I'm kinda confused. Reading a code 43 would/could be o2 sensor but it's not throwing a o2 code.

My question are Where do I start to diagnose what the real problem is? Is fixing 1 problem gonna make 3 or 4 of these codes go away?

Last question, Does resetting the ECU clear the current codes?

Remember that this is the beginner section and no question is stupid.

I'd start by cleaning the EGR valve and IACV, then go from there. As far as the TCU codes, check the wiring for the lock-up & shift solenoids. Could be possible the harness connectors just need to be unplugged/re-plugged.

Solenoids are easy , take them off and clean. For the 43 , o2 sensor is mostly the problem. We have OBD1 , not that efficient as the OBD2.

Ok so I just went with it.
I went ahead and reset the ecu and checked codes and came up with nothing. Went for a drive until engine light came on. Checked codes again and I'm now just code 43 and no tcu codes

I will get on that o2 asap

Ok so I replaced the o2 sensor yesterday and then cleared my codes. I went for a drive and then checked codes again. These are the codes I'm throwing now.

14 IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve
          And tcu codes
1-Lock-up solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
2-Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.

Today I will clean the solenoids and the IAC and see what happens

              Hey Tommi
I get rough idle sometimes at lights. Not every time though. I will be cleaning iacv and the solenoids today. I will also set the idle and see if that takes care of the occasional rough idle.

If the CEL comes on, the code is stored in the ECU until it is reset, either by disconnecting the battery or removing the Backup/ECU fuse for 10 seconds. If you have gotten a CEL, you can read the code even if the light is not on. Even after you repair the problem, if the ECU has not been reset, the code is still stored.

I have reset the ecu 3 times this week. the first time was to get active codes. Then i reset after replacing the o2 sensor and i reset after cleaning the solenoids and iac. After doing my repairs and driving about 50 miles yesterday I am no longer throwing codes.

dont you have to do both to reset the ECU? im pretty sure that is what my haynes said, unless i misunderstood.

No, either method will work. the Chilton book tells you to pull the fuse.

I reset using the method in the sticky beginner technical/perfomance

                        Resetting ECU

                        1. Disconnect Negative battery terminal (never only take off the positive, cuz it can kill the battery when it grounds all the power out, if left for a while)

                        2. Look in the Underhood fuse box, find the "Hazard" Fuse. Pull it out.

                        3. Let the car sit for 10-15 minutes

                        4. Reattach neg battery terminal and put fuse back in

                        5. Restart car w/nothing on (radio, lights, a/c) and just let it run for a few minutes.

                        6. Turn off, and then it should be good to go.
