ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Removing camshaft

Anyone know of a camshaft removal/replace DIY on here? I looked and couldn't find one. Is it as easy as removing the valve cover and detaching the shaft from the camshaft gear? I understand when the shaft is reinstalled, timing needs to be set, etc., but I'm just concerned with the removal process for now.

Removal is pretty easy on the camshaft, remove the valve cover, undo the timing belt from the cam gear, unbolt the rocker arms, and the camshaft should come out.

The factory service manual covers removing the engine or changing the headgasket, but servicing the valvetrain would be the F-series engine manual, which is referenced in the Accord manual but I've never seen online.

you can NOT just pull the cam out, you have to remove the caps in a specific order with the engine at TDC or you highly risk snapping a cam in 2.

Go buy a haynes manual, it tells you exactly what/how to do. And you WILL need the haynes later on as well.

and finding something in the manual is much faster then getting advice online...and far more accurate.

Well I guess I must be lucky, when I went to a junkyard for an a6 cam, I just popped off the valve-cover, undid the timing belt, undid the rocker arm caps in no particular order, and the cam came out in one piece.

Although the donor car wasn't mine, and I didn't give a f*ck about it, all I cared about was getting the cam out; if I was to do it to my car though, I would have had my haynes manual out, followed every instruction step by step, it is like heart surgery, but for a car. I never knew you could snap a cam in half during the removal process.

He's talking about mixinin up the caps. Yes the cam can break or cause great damage.

Oh just do remove the bolts from the rocker assm. when you remove them from the head. very confusing at first when they're seperated

You risk damaging the camshaft not the caps...

when I was in school we took engines apart and put 'em back together...two guys snapped the camshaft.

One guy didn't put the engine at tdc so when he followed the proper order it was not loaded correctly...snap.

The other did not remove the cam caps in the proper order and snap.
