ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

is my CB going to blow up?

lol pulled up to my destination earlier and noticed a knocking sound. popped the hood and it sounded like piston 1 was knocking. i shrug it off and think 'fuck it, i'll deal with it later." well, time to leave, i start it up and it doesn't seem to be making much noise, so i shrug it off again. well, i get home just now and it looks like the crank pulley is wobbling?????? my power steering belt is going WYLD, up and down movement but it's plenty tight. hard to tell from the video but it looks like the crank is moving around??? thoughts???

either broke your crank or the big puller is loose and needs tightened

20/21 years old actually ha. i wasn't doubting you, just curious as to where you think it might have done it if it that is the case. how do i go about tightening the crank pulley bolt? under the wheel well? i want to check that before anything. and do i just put it in first gear while tightening it?

take off the wheel and look through the wheel well at the big pulley and in the center there will be a huge bolt head find the right socket and keep it in park and tighten it up

the crank pulley also called harmonic ballancer, is right behind the left front wheel, just take off the wheel and it is right there, might be behind the splash guard if you still have it, (idk cuz mine fell out), if so take that out then you will see it.

how old is your crank pulley? it could be bad. they can wiggle when they go bad.

if it is in fact a loose pulley bolt, you should probably pull it out before you go and try to tighten it and check the threads. after rebuilding my motor my pulley bolt backed out 8 months later and messed up the threads pretty bad. i got lucky and was able to rethread it.
and you are going to mess with that pulley's bolt you should pick up one of these first.

                ^crank pulley tool^

when you go to tighten it, realize that it has one of the highest torque specs of the entire car, somewhere around 160-180 foot pounds, maybe someone else can chime in witht the actual specs

Autozone has one i dont know about anywhere else

however, it seems that not all stores carry it regularilly,(definitely special order), i have an autozone contact who i just talked to and he had no idea Autozone had one so he bought one from NAPA a week ago when we did his timing belt on his 98 accord. he now realizes thatthorugh Autozone that the tool is a VDP product which means that you have to special order it

so NAPA may have it. you might have to call around to your local stores. Just be sure that the person who answers the phone knows you have a honda, and that their "harmonic balancer PULLER" is not the tool you need. you need the one in the picture, its for hondas

Next time it does it, put your fingers on the spark plug boot for that cylinder. If you feel the knocking in the boot, turn the engine off. Let it cool down. Pull the spark plug, and look for aluminum in the threads. If there is, then your threads are damaged, and the plug is being pushed up in the hole. That will cause a nastty sounding knock. Tighten the plug back down CAREFULLY, since your threads are already damaged, and be aware of it in the future.

That may not be the case, but it happened to me. It does indicate a damaged head, which will be costly to fix (as an F22A head, probably cheaper just to replace it...) but it's better than rod knock!

                        UPDATE!

just pulled my car into the drive, jacked up the drivers side and pulled the front wheel off (which reminds me, i need to rotate my tires. hella camber wear in the front ha). i put a 19mm on a breaker bar and put it on the crank pulley bolt and it is fucking FINGER LOOSE. i've never been so shocked by something on my car hahaha. my brother is bringing the torque wrench over in a minute so i can get it back on and whatever.

should i throw some loctite on the bolt?????

if the threads are fine, yes. the torque specs on the harmonic balancer is 162 ft pounds

found the specs at the top of this thread
