ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    So you have codes

    1, 2, 7, and 8

Here are all the codes and the ones you have in bold red

1-Lock-up solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
2-Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.

3-Throttle Position Sensor circuit open or shorted.
4-Vehicle Speed Sensor open or shorted - No signal from speedometer.
5-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit shorted.
6-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit open.
7-Shift Solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.

9-Counter shaft or transmission speed pulse generator open or shorted.
10-Coolant Temperature Sensor open or shorted.
11-Engine RPM (Ignition coil signal) open or shorted.
    12-(No code 12 used)
13-Main shaft speed pulse generator open or shorted.
14-Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.
    15-Kick down switch circuit shorted.

Check your wiring to the solenoids. Then try a different TCU. Either grab one from ebay or a junk yard, or find someone local that will let you borrow theirs. If a new ECU gives you the same codes, then the solenoids are bad.

For the record... if you read the "sticky" threads in the technical section, all the info regarding both ECU and TCU codes are well documented.

Welcome to the site. You followed the links correctly that i sent you after your messages to me on youtube.

I have an automatic too, but my D4 light is now dead, even after swapping clusters. I think i need a different TCU because im sure i'll get soem TCU codes myself.

I've read somewhere on this site that you should unplug the connector for the transmission solenoids, clean them, and reapply electrical grease. You should try that too, and reset the ECU/TCU.

If you put a 9091 TCU in a 9293 the D4 light wont work anymore.

wat do you mean it dont work does the light turn on when u put it in d4 if it still works when u put it in gear but when you try and hot wire that plug i would think that there is not codes cuz there is nothing wrong with the new tcu

                  I never changed the TCU.

When i had the main relay issue, i never bothered to fix, and later down the road, the D4 light just died, even after swapping through 2 other clusters.

I searched and found this post after putting up:
Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
Yet all I'm reading is change the TCU and stuff. Nothing helpful to a novice that has no idea where this solenoid is,how to check it and how to change it. Yea I could look in a manual..but that takes awhile. So help a 91 coupe stop giving a 2 code.

The solenoids are the 4 big knobby things on the front of the transmission. They're the most obvious features of it when you pop the hood. Upper are lockup, lower are shift.

I don't know why people are so gung-ho about changing the TCU. It's not that cheap and checking the solenoids shouldn't be too hard. (On the other hand, high-power solenoid driver circuits are something that tends to break on a circuitboard.)

I don't have more specific info, but I believe you just pull them out, check the resistance, clean them off, pop back in.

What a great response! Finally someone tells it right! Unfortunately I still don't know what to look for except that it is under the hood (Almost went white, when you said top of the transmission. I was thinking under the car big trans work!) Hope the manuals show a photo of these or if someone could snap a very clear pic and show me.

Here are the relevant shop manual pages. You unbolt them as pairs.

The solenoids are the big metal cans… you can't miss them.

Thank you for all the trouble copying and pasting this for me! I'll find a friend that knows how to do the electrical and I can watch and put up the $ for replacement if need. Not sure what problems this will solve yet...

                              What i mean is

If you put a 1990 or 1991 TCU in a 1992 or 1993 the d4 light will no longer light up; at all; ever.
