Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    First Car

So, last week i bought my first car, a 1991 Accord EX-R.
2 and a half days later, i get hit by some speeding idiot in a nissan armada. Found out yesterday from the insurance company they arn't writing my car off (thank god). Now i havnt been able to do any mods to it whatsoever but before i do im gonna need to do repairs. Being absolutely clueless on mechanics (but wanting to learn) I thought i would come here to see what you guys have to say, and get some opinions.

heres the damage. the cars still driveable somewhat but i wouldnt take it past 40kmh. I looked at it and im guessing the suspensions messed besides the body.

Any help on what i should to would be appreciated, I really want to keep this car and fix it

in my opinion dood, sell it and get another one...that looks like alot of work and money must be invested to make it look decent again and thats without mods,i hate to say it but unless you have alot of money to burn..this car may not be for you, dont kill the messenger,im just saying.how is the engine?mileage?leaks? is it a manual or auto?sorry about that accident though..

the only real problem with the car is the damage, the engine and tranny runs at tip top shape, its an auto with 287,000kms and it doesnt leak

i mean im no body guy,im a mechanic, but if you can get the suspension checked out making sure that the strut/shock is good, theres nothing bent like a control arm,or a bad wheel bearing then you should be good,i bet you can eventually get that body fixed,if anything you can probably learn to do it yourself, anywho welcome to cb!

That looks like a lot of damage for them not to write it off? Looking at Kelly Blue Book the car is only worth like $2,200 in excellent shape. I would be surprised if a body shop would repair it for that, so has the insurance company told you what they are going to pay for the repair?

Also, it sounds like you are planning to repair it yourself, which is a good way to make a-little money off the accident if you can repair it yourself, otherwise you might want a body shop to work on it.

you mean the police ruled the accident the other person's fault and their insurance company won't pay? FUCKING SUE THEIR ASSES!!!!! get the money you are owed. and just an idea you could buy a non running cb7 and swap your good motor and tranny into it, well if the rear suspension is screwed up on the EX-R that is.

From the looks of it, that whole quarterpanel would need to be cut out, and replaced. For a shop to do it, its going to be about $500, and that doesn't include painting. Add a couple hundred for paint, and your at $700. That also doesn't include hidden damage, and having to bend anything back out. If the damage is deemed at more then half the kbb value of the car the insurence will total it. To get the most money out of the insurence, I highly recommend detailing the entire car before the insurance company takes a look at the damage. Best bet is to goto 5+ different body shops, and get quotes on the cost to repair, your going to have to do that regardless most likely. Then choose the person who isn't the cheapest, and isn't the most expensive. Avoid the places that use the computer to "estimate time of repairs", as their prices typically are meant to milk insurance and unsuspecting consumers out of their money.

Waste of a car to crush it. No need to crush if all the rest (tranny, engine, interior etc) are in fine condition.

Besides it would mean less CB7 on the road today and less parts for the rest in the future.

                          My opinion only

No need to cut as there is no rust. Just bang out as much as you can and body fill the finish to make it level and blend.

Cutting is usually for rust and unsalvagable panels. Yours to me is very salvageable. It just needs the old fashioned "panel beating" as you beat the panel straight. When done correctly a good panel beating approach is just as unrecognisable.

Most repairs today are just done the lazy (environmentally unfriendly throw away attitude) remove and replace approach.

Just make sure no superstructure (chassy) damage exists. Else you will need to have it straightened first (a robo chassy aligner from a panel beating shop).
