    Cruise Control Problem.....HELP

Hello all. I just got a 1993 accord lx yesterday for FREE. My dads friend bought it back in 1993, and has taken REALLY good care of it. HE didnt really want it anymore and just gave it to me. Im going to use it as my daily driver. The car has 303,000 miles on it, and it runs great. The guy who owned changed oil every 3,000 on the dot, and the car doesnt burn or leak oil. its awesome. My weekend car is a 05 rsx type s. Anyways, I love everything about the car, except for the transmission iis rough when going from park to drive and when shifting gears. I read up on it, and i ordered some Lubegard, i was told and i read that this stuff works wonders.

ALSO, the other thing that i am having problems with it the cruise control. The cruise control works, it will stay on for like 10 seconds and then it just shuts off. I have checked the fuse, and its fine. I checked all the vacuum hoses and they were fine, and the cable is connected properly to the throttle body. So if anybody has any ideas of what i can do to fix this issue with the cruise control, then i would GREATLY appreciate it. thanks guys

Does your speedometer work? If the speed sensor is going out, that may cause the cruise control to stop working. When I was having speed sensor issues, my cruise control wouldn't work at all.

No, the speedo works fine. When i press the actual button for the cruise control ( it says cruise control on it) the light that is in the button comes on. THen, when i hit " set" on the steering wheel, the light on the dash that says cruise comes on. It stays on for like 10 seconds and then cuts off. So anybody else have any ideas? I was hoping to get it fixed, to help out even more with gas milage.

What would a bad brake light switch have to do with what he's talking about?

          Check the cruise control computer?

If the brake light switch is out of adjustment (or the OP drives two footed or bumps the brake pedal), the brake lights could be flickering on without actually affecting the brakes, and that would kill the cruise control.
It was actually my first thought.

Welcome to CB7 Tuner! Glad you enjoy your new accord.

Your very lucky to acquire one for free and that your "free" is not a pile of scrap metal which free is often associated with.

I don't recommend additives in Honda transmissions. Actually i dont recommend anything but Honda Transmission Fluids.

The rough gears are due to you comparing it to more modern cars like your RSX. In any case if you read reviews on this car the minor gripes they say is the not so smooth transmission. But having said that its near bullet proof (if serviced properly) and the computer will likely die first rather than the transmission itself. When the computer does die its usually after 15 or 20 yrs of faultless service.

Dont use the additive is my suggestion.

Check the cruise control actuator that its ok. Its the round thing in the engine bay. From experience i noticed my one was cracked (from a previous frontal crash that was not repaired - which i was unaware of when i first purchased my prelude). It was hard to spot as it was in the under side of the round body section.

If this is ok, your spedometer is not playing up and all hoses and electrical connections are good then i would think your cruise control module (computer) may be the fault. One may be picked up from the JY.

This makes sense. When I read that last night, I wasn't even thinking about that.

Thanks for all of your input man. I really appreciate it. And yes, this 'FREE' car that i got is in really good condition and its not a pos. Only gripes would be the tranny and the cruise, other than that i cant complain, and really i cant complain at all bc i got the car for free. But, i was looking elsewhere online, and some were saying it might be the cruise control bo itself, or something to that extent. i looked, and there is a silver box under the dash that is for the cruise control, i found one online for like 20 bucks, so im going to try ordering that and see if that fixes the problem.
