ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    single rebuild

alright so when i bought my cb, it was just a shell.
took the motor out of my grand mothers accord. only had 90,xxx miles on it and
put it into my accord. now rather then do a swap, i was considering going turbo.
i kno i would have to rebuild the motor atleast a little bit. to get the full potential, what exactly do i need to replace? anybody input would help. thanx.

forged pistons, rods, all the gaskets, you might want to look at geting a delta camshaft 262,268,272, grind i would get the crank shaft replaced then get it cryotreated, new cam, lifters, rocker arms ect, new everything, head head ported, to build it the right way your looking at 3to 4k, but the beauty is its not all at once yu can do research, buy all you parts then have them installed

If you were to rebuild the engine, at the very minimum, you would want to rehone the block, replace the piston rings, wristpins, and crankshaft bearings, and replace every rubber seal in the motor from the oil pan to the fuel injector o-rings, and throw in some arp studs.

If your trying to go crazy boost, then instead of re-honing the block, you'll want to get it resleaved, and if your going to go get it resleaved, you might as well upgrade to forged pistons (of a larger bore) and forged rods.

No matter which way you go, you'll definately benefit from at least having the exhaust ports of the head ported (as they are rather restrictive in stock form).

Then rehone, new piston rings, wristpins, and crankshaft bearings, along with all new seals from oilpan to fuel injector o-rings. Afterwards you should have an engine thats as healthy as the day car rolled off the lot 17-20 years ago.

            Headwork is still a plus.

You sound like you know what you're talking about, but you really don't.

              1) those camshaft grinds are NA grinds. they will have considerable overlap, and be detrimental to turbo performance.

              2) the crank is plenty strong. There is no reason to replace it, treat it, etc... unless it is damaged. The sleeves (which you conveniently left out) will give out long before the crank.

i<3cb7, the first thing you need to do is develop a plan. Determine what sort of power level you want, and then make a plan for the parts you will need.
jemuzu3 is right about the forged rods and pistons, but that's about all.

Forged internals are a must if you expect it to last. Any work to the head is optional... turbo will make plenty of power on a stock head. You'll need to resleeve the block if you want very high levels of boost. If 8-10psi is all you want (that varies depending on turbo size, but I'll assume that you're not going to be an idiot and get one that's not a good size for the F22A...) then the stock sleeves will be fine. The stock piston ringlands will eventually fail under boost. They always do.

Equally important, if not more important, you're going to have to plan out your turbo components, fueling, and tuning. There is little room for error when it comes to turbo.

thats why i love this site. ofcourse the plan comes first. i mean motor is fairly young only 90k on the motor. just want to make it strong enuff so that nothing blows when everything is put together. any special rods and pistons? or do i just go oem with it?

That depends on your plans. There's no single way to do it, or any specific set of parts you need to buy. FIRST, you need to understand what is involved with boosting... then get the parts that suit your needs. We can't really tell you where to start any better than that, unless we make your build plans for you... and this is YOUR engine, so you have to make the call on what you want done to it. Plus, if we tell you what to do, and you follow blindly without learning the reasons behind all those parts, you could be wasting a ton of money... as you won't be able to tell who knows what they're talking about, and who's full of shit!

Just out of curiosity, how many turbo Honda engines do you think I've built?

lOl, from the way you talk... i'd say quite a few. but it could just be that you read alot on it? either way, you gave the best advice thus far. so i'll do my research on parts and then decide on what suits me.

0, but you've seen the success and failures of many members... I think you've read almost every thread created on your site... Your like the librarian of cb7tuner.com, and cd5tuner.com ... go ahead and give him the name of those 2 books you always recommend, the one by a Corky Bell, and I forget the name of the other author. Books about Honda Performance, and Turbo Fundamentals or whatnot.

To the OP, go check out the members rides section, and the turbo forum, and when in doubt, the search feature of the site, and google are your friend. Theres a wealth of knowledge here, also you've chosen a good platform to start your learning process with, as parts are cheap and plentiful for these cars.

Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Mike Kojima, and Maximum Boost by Corky Bell.

I keep forgetting I made a page with links...

And yes. I've never built a single turbo Honda motor. I've never even touched one.
While I do take care to give the best advice I can give, I have no real world experience to draw from. That's EXACTLY what I mean by learning things for yourself. Someone like me can say things that make plenty of sense, and people would follow blindly. I have the best intentions with my advice, but as much as it may sound like I know, I could be VERY wrong, and you'd never know it. If you don't know enough to identify information as good or bad, it could end up being very costly.
