ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

    Burnt oil smell

Is this bad? My friend and I cleaned the IAC. In the process we removed the PCV valve and he told me my oil smelled burnt. My sense of smell is extremely limited, so I couldn't tell.
I'm at about 4000 miles since my last oil change. I was hoping to go to March or April, since I'm currently running full synthetic. Should I change, or keep running till 6k?

Like I said, I'm at 4k, and I'm about halfway between the two marks.

As long as were on topic. I've always bought Bosch filters, and was considering going to the dealership and buying a handful of filters to last me a while. So, what's your favorite filter?

I run Zmax, with Castrol Edge 10-30, and a Fram Xtended Guard filter. This filter is specifically made for Full synthetic oils. And i change mine every 6k. No oil leaks, 255k on stock engine, and i rod on it most the time. Just check your fluids frequently and stay on top of things and you should be fine.

      Thats just my 2cents.

I run Castrol syntec, and I just use a fram filter. I used the same on my tacoma from 20k-230k miles before I sold the truck, and the motor was clean clean.

I say just change the oil if your concerned about it being burnt. Better safe than sorry.

                Oil

Change the oil and check for leaks. Maybe he was smelling burned oil on the manifold im guessing. Another reason for the smell might be that its time to change the valve. Cheap, Easy, and will run a bit smoother if needing replacement.. my 0.2

You will get a burnt oil smell with a engine that has mileage on it. Its perfectly normal. Did you ever wonder why when you change a head gasket your head bolts smell like burnt oil? Same thing with time and heat the oil can coke on metal parts. That is probably your issue. Take the PCV valve spray it with carb and choke cleaner.

The PCV valve is new as of October.

Maybe you should check to see if the smell is there still. If it is then there could be an alternative problem causing it.

Could also be a bad piston ring(s). They tend to go bad on any high mileage engine. Does the car puff and blue smoke out of the exhaust? whether at idle OR at high RPM. At high RPM its just the start but if its at idle, it could be bad and will get worse. That could explain the burnt oil smell.
