ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

can u bypass a knock sensor?

    I understand that if u f around w/ the ecu u can run an h22 w/o it.

however my question is... Is there a more "temporary" way to bypass the knock sensor so the h22 runs a little better (feels like the im drivin my S10) until the NEW knock sensor gets here?

I'm not sure if bypassing the knock sensor is a good idea in the first place. That sensor detects pre-ignition or detonation and retards the ignition timing accordingly. Bypassing this safety feature could damage your motor's internal components. If your air-fuel mixture is combusting before your piston reaches TDS, which is what the knock sensor detects, than excessive stress will be experienced by your pistons/rods/crank.

The H22 has a knock sensor for a reason. Unlike the F22, the H22 has a higher compression ratio, which makes it more prone to detonation induced by the higher gas pressure at TDC. This higher gas pressure, mixed with a fuel, and cylinder temperature is what causes detonation. Honda is aware of this which is why they implemented a knock sensor to help delay the combustion.

I personally would wait until your new knock sensor arrives before driving. Or, at least be conservative on the throttle/RPM until you have a functioning knock sensor.

You need a chipped ECU to do that... which, done correctly (safely), will most likely cost a good chunk of money.

If you want the car to run with no CEL for the knock sensor, put a PT3 or PT6 in there (the F22A ECU.) Don't drive it hard on that ECU, though. It will fuel the car well enough to be driveable... better than the open loop setting that it is most likely stuck in with the CEL on.

        ok

I have the ecu for my f22a4 (manual). just wanna make sure that using it should not fry/burn anything out? Simply because the h22a that i have came w/ an automatic ecu which i had converted to manual... vtec & ks are wired straight to the ecu i guess because im using the accord harness.

bonus question: could i fry/burn out the knock sensor if a plug in an h22 ecu w/ the ks disabled?

No you won't burn anything by using one of those ECU's and no you won't burn anything with the knock sensor disabled.

Mike got it. The only other way to bypass the knock sensor would be to trick it. Unscrew it from the block and plug up the hole that on the other side facing the engine. That hole is designed to pick up sounds in the 5-10 khz range which is what the engine knock is. If you plug it up with something to prevent the sound from reaching the sensor, or lower the frequency of the sound to below the 5khz range, you will no longer get any knock errors. This is of course assuming the knock sensor is not physically broken. Good luck!

You can still activate your vtec w a toggle, or more carrectly, an rpm activated switch. Kind of ghetto, but I have mine hooked to my horn button. (trademark)
              H22a $1000
              Msd 6al $ 200
              Fuel cell $ 200
              Carbs $ 125
              Manifold $200
              Lines etc $ 100
              Header $ 400

                that's actually bad advice.
vtec should always be ecu controlled.

an actual rpm switch is a little better but for the trouble it might as well be hooked up to the ecu.

knock sensor bypass was the first thing that came up in a google search.

Okay, and how do you enrich the maps to adjust for the extra lift?

                  Bad idea.

Crazy, just unplug the sensor and leave the H22 ECU in there. It will throw a CEL
but won't be getting any readings from the sensor to retard timing. You won't have performance, but will run better than an F22ax ECU.
