ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Custom Front/Rear Strut bar

I'm thinking about making my own strut bars due to a thread I was reading on how cheap ebay strut bars bend over time.

    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=173646

What would you guys suggest using, because honestly I don't have the kind of money I'd like to invest in a nice Neuspeed or Megan Racing strut bar when I would rather invest in other things.

I was thinking of using a flat piece of plow cutting edge that my dad has in bulk, heating it with cutting torch and bending it so it will just clear engine and hood. The stuff is about 1/4" thick and probably 2.5-3" wide made of solid steel.

I'm just wondering if that is major overkill or should I go for it and hope for the best. I'll probably attempt it sometime this weekend when I'll have the shop and my car inside to do minor engine work

If I were going to make my own I would probably try and come up with something similar to the ESP bar using square tubing and having it bolt up at the firewall along with the strut towers. Just do some research on them and come up with your own design. Then again you can get the Neuspeed bar for like $100.

Personally if i was going to DIY it, I'd use tube steel.
Square or round doesn't matter, but tube lengths have less flex than solid lengths.

You'd only need 3/4" max OD tube with a wall thickness of about 3mm.
That would be stiffer that 3" wide 1/4" flatbar.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

I completely forgot what those esp 3-point strut bars looked like. I'll see if I can do that, it wouldn't be too difficult either, just a little time spent designing and some welding.
I'll post some pictures when I attempt this on saturday and you guys can tell me what you think
