ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

If you and your friend have no idea what it takes to turbo a car, then you should do a TON of research before you even buy a single part. Buying a kit is the easy part. Bolting it on is fairly easy as well. Having things set up, and the ECU properly tuned (that's the tricky part) to run things without blowing up... THAT takes a bit of time, money, and a LOT of knowledge to do properly.

But yes... an "ebay" turbo kit is usually going to be cheap crap that won't last very long. If you don't know enough to determine if a kit is good or not, then you really don't know enough to safely turbo a car.

Ok, at least you've got that much right...

But yeah, $600 for a full turbo kit? Really? Do you REALLY expect that stuff to be any good? There's not a single brand name listed... their parts are all cheap, poorly made garbage. No worthwhile brand new turbo kit will be that cheap.

Use caution when running ebay parts. Bottom line.

SSautochrome and ebay brand manifolds whether log type or not, are prone to cracking.

When air is compressed, it heats up-and fast. It needs to be cooled, and correctly. That, proper atmo and bypass, fuel tuning, internal engine condition, tuning, there are so many aspects that are key and need to be paid CLOSE attention to. It's just not as simple as bolting up a $600 kit, sorry. Sure it might work temporarily; but he wants a reliable car too I assume.

homemadeturbo.com is a great resource, the guys there are generally nice. I agree with Mike, you must research, and comprehend all the details in order to be properly educated on the matter. Otherwise all that money and hard work will become wasted.

In the case of the F22Ax, they respond well to boost if built properly. Even stock there are some very impressive ones on "low boost". And, once again- I'll mention TUNING. Very very important. More air=more fuel. And it goes even more beyond just that. Even some DSM parts may be used in conjuction with over the counter parts. Some guys pay someone else 3 grand to do the work. Why do that when you can get educated in the process. Do some research, gain the experience, build and boost, blow it and learn. The only way it'll be solid for you guys in the future. G2IC also has a great noob resource.

OP, how many miles on your buddy's engine? A compression test is one thing, but a full leakdown test is always recommended. Any issues internally will be made even worse when boost is introduced. An engine's essentially a bigass vacuum pump. Keep that in mind as well.

                life is good.
