ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    How do I remove ICM?

I've removed the disi cap and a couple other screws but I can't get past the disi rotor. Any special instructions on how to remove these pieces so I can get to my ICM? Thanks in advance!

If the rotor is from Honda, then there is a small Phillips head screw holding it in place. Remove that screw, and pull the rotor straight off. If it is an aftermarket rotor, it's just clipped on there, and can be removed by pulling on it. If it hasn't been removed in a while, it may be tough to get off. The ignitor (icm) is held in by two screws, with 3 wires on it (the wires will have a jelly-looking cover on the connections... just pull, those are attached to the wires and will come off with them.)

Hmm, my father had the car for a while so I'll call him to ask if it's been replaced or not. I looked everywhere on it and I couldn't find anything that looked like it could be removed with a phillips. No harm in checking again. Really appreciate it deevs.

        No problem.

If there's no screw on it, then it's probably a replacement part from an autoparts store. Nothing wrong with that... just no screw holding it in place, so it should pull off with some force. That OEM one with the screw is what you have to look out for... because you're never going to pull that sucker off without removing that screw first! I've seen people pull their hair out trying, not knowing it was there!

Hahaha, sounds good. So many little things just to get her back on the road! She's been sitting in front of a friend's place for nearly two months now. My father would rather me go down a checklist of things to replace than get it towed to a shop so it could be done professionally lol

For most things, there's no need for that. Some things are best left to professionals, but basic tune-up stuff is easy to do. It's wasting money to have anyone do it for you, unless you don't have the tools, time, or facilities to do it properly yourself!

              Ehhh, this is true.

I moved to Richmond for school, so classes full time and work full time is quite a handful. Back up north, he has a friend that does the labor as favors and he only pays for parts..so I guess he's expecting the same luxury with me, haha.

If your distributor still has the original OEM dust cover you will need to rotate the engine until the rotor is positioned so you can see the scew through the window cut in the dust cover.

Window opening circled in red, Yours may not be exactly like the one pictured. However if it has the black dust cover under the rotor it will have a small window where you can see the distributor shaft. This is where you need to rotate the engine so that you can see the Philips screw.

Pretty much. Mechanics can make a killing doing stuff that the average person with a cheap socket set can do themselves!

That was a hell of a day! I'm SO lucky my local Advance Auto is only a 5 minute drive away.

Turns out the disi was replaced with an OEM replacement after calling my dad to find out. Had I read GhostAccord's post before I attempted to pry it off, my rotor would still be in 1 piece lmao

I ended up going back to the store about 4 times, haha. Gotta love spending an entire day off working on your CB.

Once I actually got to the ICM, I switched it out and applied that gellish stuff that comes packaged with the replacement. And I switched all four spark plugs for the hell of it (one at a time to avoid confusion with the wires). One was laden with oil so I may have a larger problem on my hands. Once I hooked everything back up to it's original fashion I hooked the battery back up and headed to the driver's seat.

                          The S.O.B. was dead

Took the battery back to AA; turns out it had 3 out of 12 volts; so to the slow charger it went. Today's project has been put on hold until I pick up the battery tomorrow.

                          What a day.

Ugh... what a mess. But, that's how you learn!

Sorry I wasn't more clear about finding the screw... I had forgotten that you have to get it showing through the window in the dust shield.
