ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Whats up. Its quick and simple. Does anyone know if the bilstein test strut is the same thing as the bilstein HD? The description apears to be the same but names not the same. Thanx.

My boy at an auto zone can order them. In the description it says they are "HD" heavy duty. Idk. Where is good site to get the real BHD? Andys auto sport is the only place i found them so far.

the description is the same..I read it yesterday at work..But the difference is the HD is tougher and can actually support a better drop..Theyre too expensive at autozone though.

Ok thank you. I can get a set of the fronts for $308. (BHD) not autozone. Know any better prices?

Check out tirerack.com. $108 each. $448 shipped for all 4 corners.

Don't ever buy shocks from a local retailer!

koni's and bilsteins are basically on a level playing field to be completely honest.

The bilsteins are actually superior to koni. Just not adjustable.

Aaww man. Now im stuck between the two. The roads around here are torn up, its mass. So if i can make the koni's stiff as hell easily, that might be the smart choice.

Actually, having the konis on full soft is where you'll be most of the time. I put mine on full stiff once, and it was honestly scary as hell.

im on medium soft now and i love it...theres some nasty pot holes around here..when i hit one the car follows the curveature of the hole instead of a big bang...and not to mention theres a lifetime warrenty to the origanal purchaser...blow one or all 4 call them send them back and in a week or 2 brand new shocks!! now who can argue with that..also it all depends on what ur plans are..if u want a coil over type setup then get the yellows..but if ur lookin for a sporty ride and hight then i would recommend the koni str and some springs with a 1.5-2.0 in drop with a spring rate any were from 250-350...

I have encountered this part naming phenomena before as well with Bilstein shocks. The "test" shock in my case was actually the semi-stock replacement touring class shock (twin tube).

Also, I believe only the Bilstein HD is available for the CB7, and not the Bilstein Sport.

The order of performance would go Bilstein TC--->Bilstein HD--->Bilstein Sport.

I also wouldn't say Bilstein is superior to Koni, they are most definitely on the same playing field though. Its like comparing the EVO to the STI, they're the same, but different.

Bilsteins are far cheaper and easier to revalve though, and many shocks can be done in DIY, track-side fashion in minutes, which makes them very popular in racing. Koni's can only be serviced by Koni, or a very, very, select few individuals.

Koni has one HUGE advantage in my opinion as far as street cars are concerned: the knob on the Koni yellow. Bilstein doesn't have any adjustment like that until you get into some expensive shit.

With that said, once the shocks are set, they're set. If you know what you're doing, you would revalve your Bilsteins for your spring rate and race track(or the street) and then never have to mess with damping again. There are widely used rules of thumb for critical damping percentage depending on what you're using the car for, and once you get it set right, even if you have a Koni Yellow, you don't need to mess with it. This is why non-damping adjustable full coilovers are okay, because the critical damping is figured out(or at least it should be). The only problem is the manufacturer picked that number for you, and you have no control over it, so if you want 65% crit and your F&F type 1's are 38% crit, well too bad.

Because of its versatility from the knob, I think that the Koni yellow is a better shock than the Bilsteins for a street car, assuming we're keeping the OTS valving.
