5-Speed swap question

I'm looking to do a 5 speed swap in my CB9, and I was wondering if everything had to come off of the same year Accord (mine's a '93). There's 2 5-speed accords in the junkyard and I wanted to start pulling everything.

It wouldn't hurt to get it from the same year. Only diff I see is in the clusters. The plugs are diff. But who know there may be some differences.but I think minor if any.

The mechanical parts should all be fine. My friend is using parts from my old 92 wreck to convert his 91. As tommi said, the clusters do vary from year to year, so getting a cluster from the same year as your car is the only thing that you should worry about. You don't NEED the cluster for the swap, but it's nice to have it (though I always wanted to modify an auto cluster to somehow tell me what gear my manual was in... )

I believe i saw someone somewhere do this on the shifter console using some kind of magnetic sensor I believe it was somewhere on prelude power.com where i saw this

Ok thanks guys. Deev, that would get annoying because of how many times you shift lol. I fixed the shifting problem but I want a 5-speed

I put a 91 EXR motor and 5 spd into my 92 EX auto. Wiring and coil placement is different but I made it work by removing my drivetrain and reusing it's wiring onto the older (lower mileage) engine. Only problem I had was a miswired temp sensor. I figured that out and now it's been working fine for 66,000 kms. (try and try, i cannot get the cruise control to work)??? The right side (tranny mount) is very different so you will have to work with/around that. My brother's pal welded me a solid steel mount so I didn't drill out my mount on the car or anything. It's been over two years with the solid mount on the tranny--no problem!
I'd have to say that the most difficult part of the swap was installing the brake/clutch pedal. FML that was hard. Be sure to CAREFULLY MARK the splines on the steering column BEFORE removing it so you can reinstall it correctly.

To properly do the 5 speed swap, you need to either weld in the transmission mount bracket from a 5 speed car, or use a conversion mount, such as the one made by ESP.

I can weld, but I'd rather have a pro weld it. Are the conversion mounts decent?

they are better than decent, they are beefy and totally worth the money.

ESP makes top quality parts, and their prices are quite low for what you get. It's a small operation. Primarily just a guy and his father. They're not some big mass-production company that can churn out garbage and make their money in volume. They do their best to give the best quality parts to every customer, because it's their reputation that keeps them in business.

I would honestly suggest getting the entire mount kit, and not just the conversion mount. You'll be far more satisfied with the result. Plus, you won't have to worry about your one new mount being abused by the motor as it flops around on the other worn out stock mounts!
