    F22A6,H22 IM mix n match

So I was walking through the local junk yard and came across an Accord with a F22A6 in it. Someone had already gotten away with the plenum and the Throttle body, but the runners were still there with the butterflies as well. I wasn't sure i needed the solenoid canister underneath the manifold so I left it because they wanted to charge me more. I got it for $30.

I was once considering an H22 swap so I acquired a engine that needed much work. Most of it was there but now it doesn't make much sense to rebuild it. I did happen to have the plenum for that as well as the throttle body..

I got on the phone with a friend and he said that the plenum should bolt right up to the runners no problem. so when I got home I had to see for myself and... YES!!!! Now I believe this is the exact same set up as the H23 intake manifolds. can anyone confirm this? This will be my new addition to the accord once I sure I have everything I need to make thins work.

It's not the same as the H23 manifold... but the H22 and H23 share the same plenum. The A6 runners are different. But people usually regard that combination you have there as the best mix of parts. It's a good upgrade.

yessir!! Same setup i got accept i'm double stacked. That setup should up the top end a noticable amount, but I know it helps to have the black box and wired to your ecu of course. Some members have a rough time finding this set up from what I've read so great find.

Oh, I'd recommend you clean those egr ports while its off, and prior to install make sure you have all the gaskets and hardware it pays to be prepared. I wish I had replaced my rear motor mount and installed a thermal IM gasket instead of plain old gasket material. You could even port match the runners if you have the patience, I did'nt but to each their own.

You and I, we think alike. All this was going through my head as I was removing the last 3 nuts from the A6 (they had already taken off all the other nuts. win for me). All my motor mounts are brand new. I'm definitely going to clean out the EGR passageways. I'm ordering my Bisi thermal IM gasket tomorrow. Thankfully I still have a lot of left over material to port match the runners, so that's definitely going to happen. I am also going to completely de-burr all the casting marks and smooth-en the runners. Being prepared is the way to go. I hate making runs to the parts store in the middle of a project.

I would of been double stacked, except P5ylancehad already traded his blacktrax spacer.

Thanks deevergote. I appreciate all you valuable input. I bet most of this stuff comes straight from the top of you head too.

It came out of a wreaked 92/93 black coupe. Looks like someone had swapped it in there because it wasn't an SE or EX. No leather, no sunroof. The front passenger side was smashed in past the bat box. The motor was pushed in so much that it barely had enough room to clear the studs between the motor and the firewall. F22a6 only came in SE's and wagons. I'm not sure if any ludes came with them as well.

Update I ordered my thermodynamic gasket from Bisi last night. Gonna get the spacer, plenum, and tb gaskets later today.

Your right we do because I also smoothed out (deburred) my plenum, and runners. Only thing was I couldnt reach very far in the runners, but I cleaned it thoroughly probobly better on the inside then the outside. I prefer mechanical value over looks I guess.

so all wagons came with the f22a6 and the f22a6 is the best plenum design when matted to an h22 tb and top....i know a good bit about d and b but new to accords as i just picked up a 91 cb9 as a daily but still would like to try this out if i already have half of this setup

                      What to do?

Ok here goes another question about this particular situation. I have gathered all the gaskets that I need but I'm still waiting on acquiring all the studs and bolts to put everything together. Since I got my gaskets I began prepping the runners to gasket match and de-burr them. I was doing a little bit of research and cam across this tid bit of information which made me question my previous plan.

so now you have to port the intake manifold like whoa.
The IM ports need to be smaller than the ports of the cylinder so the air is taking a "step" down so to speak as it enters the ports. This helps prevent reversion of the intake charge by impeeding the backwards from of the air. Here's a shitty paint drawing to illustrate my point.

Can anyone verify these findings? Should I just stick to only de-burring everything and not gasket matching the runners to the head?
