ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

No start, no gauge function. New battery.

Ok, so my car has been down for 3 years (92 LX with a 94 H22, chipped P28... ran fine before it was taken off the road.)
I finally decided to try to get it working today. Of course, the battery was dead (Optima Red Top.. might be able to revive it at some point...)

So, I bought a new battery. I have headlights, radio, dome light, turn signals...
What I don't have is gauge lights, gauge function (nothing moves), and the car won't even attempt to start. I don't believe I can hear the fuel pump, either.

All fuses look good. Everything seems to be plugged in properly. If it was cranking, I'd at least have somewhere to start... but with NOTHING, I don't even know where to begin!

In the time that it was down, I replaced the clutch, axles, and master/slave cylinders. A few electrical connectors had been removed in the process, but I'm quite sure all have been plugged in as they should be.

Have you checked at the terminal connections for corrosion? Even an inch or 2 down the cables? If your only getting lights and radio, sounds like a possible bad ground... Maybe the E?CU ground is loose/broken?

Check and clean the earth lead connection at the battery.
      Also check the thermostat ground.

I always forget the thermostat ground. I'll give that one a check.

I also don't get the chime that tells me the key is in the ignition when the door is open.

of course, it's dark now... I need a garage!

Weren't you going to build a garage a few years ago
You always work on your CB at the oddest times Mike!!

You can usually tell if its the battery cable because you can wiggle it and everything come on, then when you go to start you get a single click and everything dies again.

My friend borrowed some fuses... I'll have to wait until daylight to be able to see clearly what's down there. I may be missing something important.

I was doing that with my phone (it's the only light I have), but it's damn near impossible to see what I need to see with just that little LED (and one hand.)

I figure I'll brainstorm tonight, and get crackin' on it bright and early tomorrow.

The ignition switch? I've considered that possibility... is that something that can go bad from simply sitting? I've never had an issue with it before.

I'm wondering... the power that I seem to be getting might be what would happen with the key in the I setting. I may not have the II setting, and certainly not the Start setting. Perhaps the ignition switch is indeed the culprit...
