ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Need some advice on H2U5 tranny

    Hello everyone,
I've been running the H2S8 manual tranny on my 92 coupe EX for about
4 years. Here's the gear ration of the H2S8:
    3.307, 1.857, 1.269, 0.966, 0.787, final 4.266.
It performs well in accelaration but has bad fuel consumption.
The RPM is about 3300 at 70mph, 5th gear.

I'm planning to swap to the H2U5 but never have a chance to
drive a CB with it or with other trannies which have the same gear ratio.
Since the H2U5 tranny is very common in the US,
I'd like to ask for your comments on it.
    (H2U5: 3.307, 1.809, 1.230, 0.903, 0.705, final 4.062)

How does it perform in accelaration? And on urban streets?

    Thanks for viewing and inputs.

The H2U5 is the USDM Accord transmission, right (it's been a while since I've looked at transmission codes...)

I've never been in an H22A powered CB with an Accord transmission, but I do know that the gearing is long enough that you will drop out of VTEC range when you shift. If you're not racing your car, then that's really not a big deal. You will definitely get better fuel economy with the longer gearing, though.

I've read that you can put the 5th gear of the Accord transmission in the case of the Prelude transmission, giving you Prelude acceleration to 5th gear, and then Accord fuel economy on the highway. I've never confirmed it, though... and I certainly wouldn't know how to do it!

it might help a little. I think in my car, 70 is right at 3k.

Yes, the H2U5 comes with 93 USDM EX/SE.
I'm not racing my car but some friends of mine who are running
long gear trannies are facing some trouble with accelerating.
In Taiwan, streets are crowded and full of traffic lights...

Is it possible to swap the final drive of the H2U5 to a 4.266 one?
Or can I put the 5th gear of the H2U5 into the H2S8?

I've heard that swapping gears is possible, but I don't know any more than that. Someone with more experience than me would hopefully be able to help there (i'm actually curious myself.)

The Accord transmission will be fine for regular driving. The H22A's low-end characteristics are very much like the F22A, so at the very worst, it'll just feel like an F22A until you hit VTEC.

            he has a f22a6.

swapping gears is as easy as pressing the old ones off the input shaft and countershaft. assuming the shafts have the same OD.

so swapping gears for better fuel economy is possible?

then how can i make sure of that do the shafts have the same OD?

I've heard that it can be done... I've also heard that it can't be done (actually, the man quoted in your sig, '93CB7Ex, was the one that told me it can't be done...)

I've heard that it can be done right here in Taiwan.

Many Civic racers change specific gears to
get the characteristic curves in accelerating they want.
Those who are enthusiastic at "mountain roads" usually
swap to final dirvers with lager diameter.

My considerration is that I'm not sure if it really can be done on
H2XX trannies and that's why I'm here to ask for help.

Maybe I'll take both the H2S8 and H2U5 to the mechanist and see.

I can tell you for sure that the H2U5 will take the 4.266 final drive. That's what I have in my car. I did lose some acceleration, but I really like the lower revs on the highway. The M2S4 that I had put my RPMs at around 3700 @ 70MPH, the H2U5 with 4.266 FD puts the RPMs at about 2900 @ 70MPH.

                          Thanks for the sharing.

When you said that you did lose some accelaration,
did you mean that it's comparing with the M2S4?

The H2U5 originally came with a 4.062 final driver
and should have better acceleration with a 4.266 final.

                          That's just my understanding.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I lost a bit of acceleration compared to the M2F4 (USDM H22 trans, not the M2S4), but with the FD swap, 1st gear is identical (3.307 X 4.266) between the 2 transmissions and the H2U5 4th gear is the same as the M2F4 5th gear (0.87 X 4.266). That shows that the gear spacing is quite a bit wider, but the final drive makes it easier to deal with...

Yeah... Brining it back from the dead but I am extremely interested in doing this. I want the acceleration from the 1st-4th gears from the h2s4. Most of my driving is done on the highway so I really want the economy from the h2u5. I have taken it to the shop but they never called me back! I need to go back there......
