ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    lost of torque.. ?

I was wondering what the cause of it would be because i used to be able to beat my buddies 99 ex civic that had an AEM short ram intake/filter, DC header, and a no name 2.5 exhaust but now i can't even keep up with it.

my mods are AEM short ram intake/filter and a no name header.

not only that, my 1st and 2nd gear would always squeal when taking off. (and no, i did not do that often.)

i do take care of my car. new spark plugs/wires, oil changed every 3,000 miles, new OEM exhaust. no leak anywhere.. you get the point.

so what would be the cause of lost torque?

even though you say you don't do that often i'd ask how is your clutch? any slipping? slipping can cause torque loss

no leaks at all. at least i dont think so. exhaust is extremely quiet. engine is super clean.

i do have a check engine light but it only comes on when i go up a hill. so i figure its a bad sensor.

and i recently cleaned the IAVC and throttle body.

It's an old car, feed it some seafoam. You'll also find out if you have any exhaust leaks while doing that because white smoke will come out of places other than the muffler.

This whole thread is based off of inconsistent occurences. You say the car is slow because it no longer does X and X but besides that you didn't say there was a problem

Your car is slow. What else is there to say? Unless you have a problem we can't really help you fix it.

                  read. please.

i said, why is there a loss of torque?

I don't know why so i ask because like i said, i've taken care of my car over the years.

How come all of a sudden my car can no longer keep up a car i used to beat by 2 car lengths?

How come all of a sudden my 1st and 2nd gear don't "peel out" when i'm racing or doing a burn out?

                    hurrr i did read

How else would i know that there were a few inconsistent occurrences of said problem.

How come you can't keep up with another car? Maybe he got faster or learned to drive better

How come you don't peel out? Maybe a different road surface or different tires.

You can't base a "problem" off of nonsense information like that. What do you want me to say? How can i diagnosis a problem that might not even exist.

How do you know there is a loss of torque? Have you measured your engine's output?

If you have a new clutch, did you break it in properly, or did you just start driving on it like you always would? If you didn't break it in properly, it may be slipping a bit... and it will continue to do so until you change it again. Cluches and brakes need to be broken in properly, as well as installed on freshly resurfaced friction surfaces (flywheel, pressure plate... and in terms of brakes, rotors.)

Have you adjusted your ignition timing? Is your check engine light on? What is the condition of your spark plugs (they can tell you a lot about how your engine is running.) How is your fuel economy (if it sucks, you may be running rich, which saps power.) Have you replaced your tires since you've been able to "peel out"?

Tippey is 100% correct. You are giving us NOTHING to go on, and all we can do is throw random guesses at you based on the fact that you can't beat your friend's Civic anymore. Give us real symptoms of a real problem, and maybe we can help. Otherwise, the best thing we can say is "your 20 year old family car is slow".
