    Exhaust quiet combo

About 2 weeks ago my 88 accord muffler started to leak again after about 4 months of changing the stock one. the 88 accord muffler has a more oval profile and is good if you want to go low and retain your stock exhaust. it sits up higher and is half the size of the original muffler. last week i got ebay exhaust but i dont want that loud muffler on my car so im gonna use the 2.5" piping.i also have a 22 inch resonator that im gonna use to quiet down the exhaust.im looking for advice to choose which muffler i should look into. i want a nice tone in the muffler when i put my foot down, but i dont want the drone noise while im cruising either. i couldnt stand the little exhaust leak so i dont think im up for a loud exhaust. thanks

Well it really depends upon your budget, it doesn't sound like your really after performance, just quietness. Summit Racing makes some decent mufflers for cheap, otherwise any name brand should be good, as long as its an Oval.

When I do the exhaust on my car to go with my bisimoto header, I'm going to have it setup with a 14", & 22" magnaflow resonators, and a 2.5" Magnaflow oval muffler to keep things quite. I also plan on having my header venturi to 3" for the catalytic converter, then venturi back to 2.5" for the rest of the exhaust. My exhaust will be completely stainless. Also don't mix metals either, as it will cause galvanic corrosion the second they are exposed to water and will rust INCREDIBLY fast.

I believe the exhausts on ebay are only 2.25", not 2.5". So before you buy anything, take out the tape measure and check.

Thanks for the tip. i bought this:

it says its a 2.5 inch but im gonna double check like you said. i am going for a little performance but not looking for a massive increase in horsepower.i do have megan headers installed now and still have my cat(which i plan on keeping). I was looking into vibrant mufflers but my bud has a dual tip on his cb7 and it is loud as hell(he also doesnt have a cat which may explain its loudness)i have about $150 to spend on the muffler and about 300 to have everything welded up neatly.

What area are you in? If you're in the San Gabriel Valley, I highly recommend Mike's Mufflers in El Monte. They do great work as many will attest. I had been there 3 times for different setups on different cars.

When I got my CB, it came with a 2.25 inch full catback with a no name fart can. It was loud. I had them install a stock (aftermarket) muffler on it and had it attached where the axle is. They custom bent a 2 inch pipe from the axle back which creates some more back pressure to gain some torque. It is quite with a little bit "performance" to it. I really like it. If you want the car to sound more "powerful" and not have the droning sound, getting an intake with a 3 inch piping makes a noticeable difference in sound. I'm running this setup on my car and it sounds nice when I step on it but yet it can be as quiet as stock when I take it easy. Best of both worlds when you don't want any attention in certain situations.

thanks for the recommendation but i live in clifton, new jersey.(a little bit far for me)so far ive decide to put on 2 resonators and im still looking for a baffled stainless steel muffler instead of the straight through design.that back pressure idea is something for me to really think about also

              Quiet, not quite.

The muffler's ability to quiet things down is largely based on its size. A nice large, long oval muffler will do the best job. A second resonator will help (as cloudasc described in his setup.) I currently have 1 resonator (probably 22"...) and a no-name dual tip muffler on my car. It's fairly loud.

So you have a completely stock exhaust... yes, that would be quiet.

okay since the my last post i went on and ditched the vibrant muffler for a thrush turbo muffler.i hacked off the fart can and had the thrush muffler put on. i was expecting it to be loud but its quiet. when i cruise the drone is there but you have to really listen for it.My cb sounds the same except when i put my foot in it i can hear the exhaust (a little bit). thanks everybody for the advice and i wil put up a vid soon so you can hear it.

Any "turbo" muffler will usually be louder. The concept behind a turbo muffler is that they are designed for a car with a turbo installed. The turbo itself is a restriction, and muffles the sound a bit. Designers realized that they did not need a muffler as large as for an N/A car with a turbo. Of course, that was the original concept... nowadays, I wouldn't doubt that manufacturers call their mufflers "turbo" because it makes people buy them, thinking they're some special performance upgrade.

Didn't bother reading anything, did you?

Also, apexi offers more than just the quiet World Sport series. The Apexi N1 is loud as hell.
