ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Replacing Head Gasket, what else to check/replace?

So I have the engine nearly stripped to the gasket to replace it. Is there anything else I should check or replace while I have it torn down?

    What I have:

Head gasket kit (HG, intake and exhaust gaskets, valve cover gasket, plug seals)
Timing belt kit (belts, tensioner, water pump, timing cover seals)
    Thermostat

The plugs are pretty much done too (fouled from coolant) so those are on my shopping list as well as plug wires.

Any other suggestions for items? Car has 154k on it, history largely unknown aside from PO overheating it...

Check your valve guides, especially on the exhaust side of the head, I had to replace mine when I redid my headgasket.

replace the hoses underneath the intake manifold. They WILL leak and if you cheap out now and don't replace them, you'll have an easy 2-3 hrs of contorting yourself under the car trying to get the clamps off and the hoses fixed.

They cost at most 30 bucks for all of them. Get the U shaped hose fixed and the one that goes to the water pipe from the heater core outlet, under the intake mani.

That is actually VERY good advice, I remember when I got a pinhole leak in one of those hoses on my car, and it took like 30 minutes to get the old hose off, and new one back on, unless you have a gutted engine bay, or access to a lift to get at it from underneath, its in a pretty messed up spot tight spot (when trying to get at it from the top).

If engine had overheating issues. Your going to want to have your head check by a machine shop. Should cost you roughly around a $100 dollars if you shop around. Have them resurface and pressure test the head. You dont want to put a warp or cracked head back on.

Yeah, head is definitely going to the machine shop for a once-over.

Hoses are now on the list too. I was just thinking about how much of a pain they would be as I crawled under the car to unbolt the intake bracket...not down with that nightmare lol
