ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

is it easier to remove motor with tranny

ok, ive searched the forum, im prolly gonna get bitched at for asking.. but is it easier to remove the engine with the transmission attached or leave the trans in and un bolt it from the motor?

Well it all depends on what your resources are. I just dropped on out of the bottom at the local junkyard because I was too lazy to go find the engine lift from somewhere plus the car was already sitting about two feet off the ground. I just needed the block though. There are dowels that connect the tranny and engine block. So you would need to be able to pull the two apart. Personally if it was my car and not a junkyard I would have gotten a lift and pulled them both at the same time because it is the right way. Like I said its up to you and your resources available.

Both at the same time. If you need the transmission out you can pull it separately, but with the engine you have to pull both.

Its easier to do both trust me. You can save time doing it with both but you can remove one and leave the other if you pull the motor by itself it just takes patients and a lot of cuss words to put it back in.

I have pulled the whole motor/tranny out together, tried dropping the tranny out the bottom and just pulling the tranny out the top. I would say, by far, taking the whole motor tranny out together is WAY easier (And I can do it by myself)

I have found (And there may be easier ways to do it but I have not found it) that I spend more time fighting with dropping it then I could pull the whole thing out all together. IMO

i think it just depends on if you have an engine hoist or not what else you planning on doing. When i dropped my auto tranny, i literally dropped from the bottom only using a floor jack and stack of phone books. That was the way my dad taught me if i need to change a clutch since it'd be more trouble some removing the engine and trying to remember where to connect every thing back up again.

I would love for someone to do a write up on just dropping the tranny by itself. because when I did it, I fought with it quite a bit. Everyone I talked to would say "Just drop the tranny out the bottom" but nothing more than that, and I had major binding issues with the tranny and wheel-well. After fighting with it for several hours, I threw a couple of the tranny bolts back in, and yanked the whole motor out in less than two hours. (Probably more like an hour)

                  out of the top.

Pull the crank pully off, lower the trans side and then come up, Have to take of the header and down pipe and the lower brace and the trans mount off at the trans.

Hey whatever it takes to get your car back on the road. You can always go back to the a6 later on or an H22 later.

Just transfer over the following parts from your old block.

                        Intake Manifold
                        Exhaust Manifold
                        Camshaft
                        Oil Cooler
                        Oil Pickup
                        Windage Tray

And your a1, is now an a6.

As mentioned in the previous post all it takes is a few parts swapped with the a6 parts. Also, you are much better off pulling the engine and trans out at the same time I can tell you from my recent motor swap experience.

What cloudasc described is exactly what I'm doing now. I'm using the valve springs also and would recommend you do the same.

see i wish i had the skill to actually mess with the internals, i dont have proper tools for head work, like taking out the springs, adjusting valves, or removing the camshaft... i can remove the camshaft, but i dont have a torgue wrench or anything need to do it right.... and there are no cb7 owners here locally that can help me... i need to move where u guys are at
