ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Clacking sound..HELP PLEASE..

Hey guys, i just changed my alternator today and did it properly, all bolts and belts are nice and tight, and all of a sudden when i cranked it my starter went bad. So i had someone tap it for my while i turn the key and it slowly started. Now i can turn it on and off with no problem but i still got to get a new starter. My problem now is that now when i start it, i hear a very loud clacking sound coming from the driver side of the engine and when i put my ear close to where the header is, i can hear it there too and also my starter started smoking from the solenoid.. what can this clacking sound be? did i tighten the belt too much or what?

check all your bolt, bolt need to be tight, otherwise, the strap do no tight them. you will broke your bearing, im pretty sure you have tight too much the strap, she need some play... otherwise you are grabbing your bearing now or later.

How many miles do you have on your car? If it's under 300,000 miles, you could just replace the brush for the alternator and it would keep going. Now you bought a refurb, your chance of getting a bad one right out of the box is 50%. My friend had to replace his alternator 6 times and still got a bad one. So I replaced the brushes for him and now 60000 miles later, still running strong. Nothing beats OEM.

If you over tighten your belt, the bearing on the alternator could break.

yes but g-strap is not same as g-belt, g-strap is more interesting than a g-belt

anyway back to the post, yes when i have say ''strap',' is the belt i have mentioned. belt and strap here is same thing. lol

loosen it a bit, just a little, it is important not slipping. without it she'll get rid soon and work will be a repeat.

ok i just loosened the belt a bit, and its still making that sound, but that sound is coming from the block itself, it kind of sounds like a spun bearing or rod or something like that.

well that sound has always been there, but it was very slight..my car shut off on my saturday night after running it all day, and now when i changed the alternator and cranked it, that sound got really loud. i know its not the alternator or belts, it sounds internal.

seems like your engine will find his end soon, this can be spring-valve, rods, crak bearing, you car smoke oil?

no my car doesnt smoke oil or leak..would an oil change have caused this to happen, because i used 10w-30 and i felt like it might have been too thin

When you start the car, does the it make the "clacking" noise momentarily then it goes away?

When you drive your car, do you hear the clacking noise when you go over 1800rpm's or so (with load; eg. in gear)?
