ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    fuel filter washers

I'm wanting to replace my fuel filter I bought like six months ago and I never installed it but now that I want to install the washers are missing. My question is is it absolutely necessary to replace the old washers with new ones

If you don't want to risk a leak, yes.
You can probably order the washers from Honda. Or, if you REALLY want to be a dick, do what my friend once did... go to a local autoparts store, open a box, and steal the washers (I DO NOT condone that!)

Do you think its possible to use washers that are similar to the original ones?

I'm sure it is... but if they don't work exactly the same, it may leak.
You could always just buy a new filter complete with washers.

Saving a few bucks now might seem like a good idea, but if fuel leaks onto your hot exhaust and starts a fire, it'll end up being MUCH more costly.

You can use the copper washers from brake hoses. They sell those separately. You just need to talk to someone who knows what they are doing bring the banjo bolt with you to find a proper size that's going to work.

I have never had any issues reusing them. If you have new ones use them if not its no big deal.

How come your new filter didn't come with the new copper washers?

Probably because some jerk did what I suggested and stole them!
I lost the washers for my new filter. They were just loose in the box, and they slipped out.

                    I don't believe they're the same size.

oh i didn't meant size wise, but that they crush to form to the cavity after tightening the bolt into place. I've never replaced the fuel filter before so i can't really comment but i swore i once read before that they were the crush style washers.

Oh, yeah, I believe they are... another reason reusing them is not a good idea. Crush washers aren't really supposed to be reused.

I think the washers are copper not crush aluminum. The copper help seal better when dealing with fuel I guess. I replaced mine twice and both times they are copper. You can reuse them if they are not in bad shape. But why reuse when you have new. My washers came in a plastic little bag though. I usually check before leaving the store. One time my friend bought some thing and they were used old rotten return, he took it home but when trying to exchange, they refused. That was at Pep Boys I think. I always buy my stuffs if needed at O'Reiley or Autozone.

I've reused them in the past when I got stuck and didn't have new ones.
If you do, run them over a flat file a couple times to smooth them out before install.
