ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Accelerating issues? Help!

    I have a 90' Accord EX Auto.

Yesterday I was doing some errands and the check engine light came on, but nothing was wrong with the car. A few secs later I notice I was having a bit of hard time getting over 50mph. It was slowly moving up, got to 60 and was kinda just staying there, no matter how hard I was pressing the gas.

So I pulled over, turn the car off, turned it back on and it drove fine. This morning on my way to work, it was much worse. When I turned it on it was hesitance to fully turn over, than normally. I than drove it down the street and notice it was having jerking issues, and was having a hard time getting to 20mph, and than 30mph. The harder I pressed on the gas, the car would BUCKK/JERK harder. So I turned around and went back home.

On my way back home the car accelerated fine, than would have problems going faster, off and on. Got home, popped the hood, no oil leaks, but the smell of burned is coming from the engine. When I press on the pedal (engine bay) to revv it I hear a noise come from the engine? Ive had this issue years ago, but I dont know what I did to remedy it.

Sorry for the lengthy message, just giving as much info as possible

P.S. Got an oil change this weekend if that matters.

EDIT: I'm having a very similar issue like this guy (link below)

Pull the error code from the check engine light. That will tell you what your problem is.

From your description, I'm going to guess it's your oxygen sensor, but until you pull that code, that's nothing more than a guess.

It kinda sounds like an oxygen sensor issue, other then the fact that "no matter how hard you press the pedal" doesn't fix it. When you WOT, the car is no longer running in closed loop mode (meaning its no longer relying on the o2 sensor for input), the ecu uses "basemaps" and/or "lookup tables" for other sensors to deliver the proper amount of fuel.

When my o2 sensor went bad, I was able to WOT out off the bogging / acceleration issue. A quick way to test if its the o2 sensor thats causing the problems is to simply unplug it, and drive around. If the problem goes away with the o2 sensor unplugged, you can be pretty certain thats the issue. (Yes unplugging the o2 sensor will turn on the check engine light, make sure to reset the ecu after your done testing to remove the stored code).

        Thanks for the speedy replies.

I will test the o2 sensor, which could aslo explain my shitty gas mileage too. Whats wierd is, the o2 sensor is new, I just got it late last year, probably only 8 months old and it's a NGK too.

A couple other things came to mind also:

Oil in the distributer can cause issues too, so maybe pop off the distributer cap and take a look.

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? A clogged/clogging filter can cause issues too.

I could also imagine a failed/clogging/clogged catalytic converter can cause issues.

Oh and don't forget to pull any codes/cel's that you get that aren't caused by testing, as they usually give the best clues of where the issue is.

Keep us posted and Good luck

I'm waiting for my mechanic to come over still, damn, lol.

I tried starting her, she was having a hard time coming on, like fully turning over, but she did. It was a VERY rough start. When I gave it gas the car shaked vigorously, and the RPM were not jumping / moving as fast, sort of like something was cut off or unplugged.

I got a feeling it's the fuel pump.

I had it replaced about 4 years ago, but this could also be a problem with bad gas right? Ive been having horrible gas mileage lately.
