ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Now, as far as changing the tranny oil as suggested, that is just pulling the plug, and not doing the filter change correct? Wouldn't it be a good Idea to replace the filter as well on the first go, and try to drain all of the fluid?
when you pull th plug on the transmission 2.5 qr will come out thats it . you will half to do a few times . drain , fill , drive a day , drain ,fill, drive a day, drain , fill to get fresh fluid in the hole transmission . it may take a little longer depending on how much junk you got in there . i just go till nothing butt fresh fluid comes out . witch is usely around three drain and fill then ill do one to two more drain in fills to make shure.

Okay, I done some research and the filter is non-serviceable... Would regular electronic parts cleaner be the best option for cleaning the solenoids with? and will the screens be on the solenoids themselves or a little further on the transmission?

Just got to drain and fill!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so much of a difference. I ended up going with Castrol transmax

I made sure it was a suitable replacment for the atf-z1
the fluid change has helped so tremendously. I intend on doing it again once a month for a while till it straightens all of the fluid back out. Thank yall so much for the help.

you should have gone with Honda ATF. i had tried using a different brand in mine and it was so much better using the Honda ATF rather then using some other brand. It does make a difference!
1997 Ford Explorer V-6 AT (what a piece of junk)
1993 Nissan Sentra M/T (front end damage, off road for now)
          1999 Mercury Mountaineer V-8 A/T - RIP (rolled: totaled)
1992 Honda Accord A/T EX - RIP (transmission shot: sold to junkyard)

Putting Honda Z1 ATF in an old CB7 Hondamatic is like putting AMSOIL or any other expensive boutique oil in these old cars, its overkill and isn't necessary. These tranny's called for the old dexron II type of ATF so any brand name off the shelf ATF that is dexron II certified will do just fine and you won't break your tranny. These old 4-speeds were built like tanks and aren't nearly as picky as the newer honda AT's which I would definitely run only Honda ATF at all times. I have been running Valvoline Maxlife in mine for about 5 yrs now and have done probably 100000KM and it still shifts great. I'm sure the Castrol ATF will do just fine too.

Be it overkill or not, I have horrific luck with vehicles and didn't want to push it... I like using the better stuff anyway when I can afford it. I do intend on using it again here probably at the beginning of next month to get more of the older fluid out. I was standing 10 foot away from the old oil in the drain pan, and could smell that burnt atf smell... I actually had no problems doing the change though didn't even take the wheel off, and only jacked the car up maybe and inch or two So i could get the extension in. I did have the wheels all the way to the right too though. I still can't believe how much it helped, I'm still waiting for it to kick into gear sometimes...
