ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Reset ECU after adding a CAI?

Is this a good idea? Someone at Advance Auto Parts told me if I bought a cold air intake; I should reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery..

to be completely honest to get a real performance gain from a cai you would need to dyno tune. if your car has never been tuned to altitude the cai might not make much of a gain. resetting your ecu wont help much if at all, but according to parts manufacturers you should replace your coolant for some reason i never really grasped.

Yeah I really don't see any gains from a CAI besides 2hp or so.. I don't see how some companies claim up to 28hp ... Ridiculous.. I just wanted the extra sound.

I bought a CAI and I use it as a SRI because I like the sound, CAI doesn't sound as nice

You don't need a tune for a CAI. That's absurd.
Yes, reset the ECU. You should reset the ECU after performing any engine work, so it can recalibrate. Pull the radio/backup fuse for a few minutes, and/or disconnect your battery.

And allow to idle for 15 min.

ECU reset also zeros the long term fuel trim. That is exactly what you want to do when altering anything on the engine induction, fuel and exhaust systems. It learns from scratch.....

So whats the difference between reset and relearn? And how do you do a relearn? When is this necessary as opposed to just a reset?

Same thing. When you reset the ECU, it relearns.

The relearn is what happens after an ECU reset......

You start the car without any accessories running and without touching the throttle or the brake. Run it until the engine is at operating temp and the fans have cycled twice. At least that's how I have always done it.

                              Sorry for this.

                              I just explain the "term"

And yes, if you make a reset it make a relearn but the two are different
